[removed, cba with all this hassle]
Now I know people on here don't like it when people decompile maps, change them and re-release them but I don't see what the big problem is. When the new update came out I was disappointed that Fastlane hadn't been converted and decided to do it myself. All credit goes to the original creator of course. I didn't make this map to get credit for other people's work, I did it so that people in my clan and others could enjoy the map in a different gamemode and also because I could learn a lot about mapping by looking through this great map (and I did).

Changes made from the original:
- Cut out the first cp base, blocked it off.
- Removed all health and ammopacks. Added two small packs in the centre arena, two medium ammopacks, and two large ammopacks by the spawnpoints on the second point area.
- Lowered the height of the building over the middle point, as the power soldiers and demoman had on top of there was too devastating in Arena mode.
- Players spawn in the same place as where the 2nd cap would be
- Only the middle point remains

Hopefully you'll enjoy the map in arena mode, apart from a bug with a few of the overlays it looks the same as cp_fastlane.

There's still a few inaccessible areas I need to cut out to help with file size and compile time.

While all other purists are flaming, I'll be with you.
We are not "Purist" because we think that stealing someone's work, changing a couple of things, and then re-releasing it. A lot of people are getting the idea that you can pull any old map, plop a CP in the middle, and call it an arena map. Then the people go on about how they gave credit to them in the readme, but did they ask the person before they even started? Then there are people who decompile a map, make significant changes, and re release it. Usually done by an inexperienced mapper, so the end result is degrading to the original map owner.

No but I did ask someone at Valve.

Considering that someone got flamed for modifying their own map I wasn't expecting a very positive response.

Well using someone elses map is a pretty big no no, with the one proviso, your have their permission. since the map is kinda half owned by valve and skdr sorta (I don't know the details) you should find out who actually owns it and seek their permission before modifying it, I know if someone modifies any of my maps I'd sure as hell be fucking furious and do everything in my power to get that map out of circulation, why do you think skdr would not be as angry and do just the same?

If you have permission from who ever owns the map, go ahead and edit it, but if you don't Its hardly suprising you're not going to get a good reception since what you're doing is just plain wrong, its imorral.

Its not the fact its a decompiled map, its the fact its someone elses hard work you're defiling. you wouldn't break into a museum, steal a famous painting, repaint less than half of it and then sell it as your own work... You'd get arrested for theft and hated by millions for ruining a highly valuable piece of art. Why is a map different?

That is a terrible analogy... stealing a piece of artwork from a museum would cause the original museum to no longer have the piece of artwork, painting over the artwork would cause the people who enjoyed the original to be unable to see it anymore
I think a more accurate analogy would be taking a picture of a painting, resizing it so that it would fit into a different canvas and then releasing it so that those who enjoy looking at it can if they choose... I'm not ripping the original off servers and replacing it with this arena version am I...

The first two paragraphs were the important ones... about getting permission...

I assumed that it would be Valve that would need to give me permission, as when I asked them if i coudl to it their reply was 'Yes.' . If they werent allowed to give me permission I would have assumed that they woudl tell me so...

Dont hammer him about changing a map to suit another gamemode, so what if its only got the middle cp left, its an arena map, its going to have only one cp left in the middle. Personnally i think this map is great, off course it isnt anything amazing, but it works well with the arena gamemode.

And as for saying its like repainting a highly expensive painting, thats completely wrong. Its more like buying a car and giving it a new paint job, there is nothing wrong with doing it, and it wont be to everybodys taste, so if you dont like it, dont post comments like these. [/end_rant]

Then you need to clarify that you have permission so that you avoid all the comments about it being wrong. Since you have permission you are free to defile the map as you see fit, doesn't change the fact that more than half the comunity here will dissaprove.

'Defile' the map??
All I'm doing is changing it to another gamemode, very little difference from what Valve did to their well granary and badlands maps. I haven't changed the skybox, put rick astley music in the background and then made little boucning trampolines everywhere
