I generally listen to various game sound tracks (Guild Wars 2, Starbound, Black Mesa, Borderlands, Guild Wars 1), "Enter the Haggis" radio on Pandora or Ellie Goulding Radio on Pandora.

Game music is good because it's designed to be non-intrusive and non-distracting.

I shuffle through my own playlist of no particular genre. I don't find music that distracting when mapping, so anything goes really. I find the random shuffle helping me stay alert and focused

I find lots of music really distracting while mapping, but I'll typically find an album that I like and put it on loop for the entirety of the mapping works (so I've got all that shit memorised). Albums I've done that too and I subsequently would recommend:

Of my 13 days worth of music about half of it would be suitable for mapping to me. And since i like alot of variation i often try to get quite a bit of songs into that playlist and only exclude those that would realy distract (which a few of them do). Although i used to have mapping session where i just listened to 1 artist only. Which then was just out of lazyness.

Still, if i dont like a song i just have F8 bound to next song.

The spoiler contains a list of some of the artsist (most of those are actualy as album and not as single track which is the reason for F8 as sometimes there is some garbage between it)

Usually one of 2 things. The first is Infected Mushroom. The steady beat really helps me stay on track.

The second is Mindless Self Indulgence. I don't know why, but I think it's just trashy enough to help block out other thoughts without being distractingly bad. It's also not complex enough to be distracting.

Or sometimes I just hit shuffle and see what comes up.

From my experience spotify either has playlists with constantly the same music and just little variation, or the playlists are small. And on its radio its not unlikely to have the same song 5 times a day. But then again, you can also just do next song or pick a larger playlist.

I know i can make my own playlist, but even then... some songs that i want simply arent on spotify (or at bad quality).

So spotify isnt the solution for everyone.

I have a collection of Springsteen songs I like to play sometimes when working on my payload map. One of these days, while playing the actual game, I may play "Badlands" while playing on Badlands.

Also, as my name would imply, I sometimes put on an MST3K episode to laugh while I work. I put on the infamous "Time of the Apes," while working on area portals, and I played Ed Wood's "the Sinister Urge," while reworking the fourth choke point of pl_siege.

I prefer listening to podcasts rather than music when I'm working on maps. My favourites are Judge John Hodgman, NPR's Ask Me Another, Welcome to Night Vale, and (if it counts) Let's Drown Out. (I used to listen to KritzKast too, but I just sort of stopped.)
