Beta Casual Event

Frozen suggested I post here so I'm going to.

Sunday casuals died ages ago, people loved those. I'd like to have something start similar to that.

I feel like beta+ (beta <-> final) maps don't get their 'run for their money' anymore. Once maps are out they seem forgotten now unless they're lucky enough to become popular on another small server, be well-made joke maps (trainsawlaser comes to mind) or become official.

The idea is for in the back of the event to run a few maps that're past gameplay testing and are just after detail. I'll get to why in a moment.

The main thing that sparked this entire thing is a little gift thing earlier today in the rust marathon. Every round people voted for a small optional goal to be completed in-game, and some Secret Saxtons were given away if completed.

Simple as anything. The flaw being that the winner didn't get awarded anything themself; so this would be changed to something like a single secret saxton and an item to them specifically of scaling quality. (metal, hats, maybe a taunt.. etc). The goals were simple things like "get a fan of war kill" or "get a domination with the revolver", but could be extended to anything really.

I'm not the best at explaining out a concept but that's the general gist of it. All it really needs is an event from someone of higher power and for me to put together a nice armada of items to give away, a few beta maps and a list of fun goals for people to achieve.
As with my opening sentence, the plan would be for it to coincide with the timing of the old sunday casuals but that could change.

Open to any suggestions or criticisms.

I like the idea of drawing people to the event like that, and I certainly think that more beta maps need to be played, but there's a problem. By rewarding in game activities, you're totally throwing the gameplay - why wouldn't you go fan of war only if you could win a prize for doing so? That sort of thing probably wouldn't be fun for the players, and it'd certainly be useless for the mapper.

So instead, we should reward something useful: feedback. Taking one beta map at a time, why not give one large reward to the person that could give the most useful feedback on a map on that map's thread? Even if the author hasn't mapped for ages, it'd still be valuable practice for the contestants and on the off chance the maker does come back to the map - or even better, inspired to return to it based upon fresh interest - they have a huge amount of information to work off of.

More I think about it, could we have a feedback contest?

I have to admit that is true, although the fact is it's a "casual" so the maps aren't out for feedback they're just being played rather than tested.

After some positive events it looks like a beta casual is going to be happening tommorow so if anyone has any beta / rc maps they want testing, or beta / rc / final maps they just wanna play I'll put them in the map list. (Either rotation or manual map votes every map change).

Aly already asked for keikoku and I'll probably toss in maple ridge.

I don't know about people loving my sunday casual play events, it was always so-so with attendance. I had planned to do throwback event like playing all the maps from a contest each week and stuff, stuff like that got more attention paid to it, where it wasn't the same maps every week.

I remember this being done before, I think it was during a casual-play event on our server because I remember we were on that nighttime snow KOTH map. Somebody had a bunch of spare keys and started offering them as prizes to people for certain challenges, like I got one for being the first to get five kills as the medic I think.

So yeah, that would be interesting.

I seem to barely remember that actually, I can't for the life of me remember the map though. But yeah, it's no original idea.

Anyway, I'm gonna start off first with just maps and no silly stuff to see how the base idea goes first.
