How can I select stuff for VIDE to pack?

VIDE isn't picking up stuff from the construction pack, yet showing them in the list of stuff used in the map. I select them and hit "Add" but they stay red. I don't want my map covered in errors and purple and black, any help?

I had this problem when I had everything stored in my /custom folder, but I copied my models and materials back to the root /tf directory and VIDE found them just fine. Maybe try that?

I think it might be useful if we wrote a clearer guide on how to use it :p

You're following this tutorial on it, right? If not, use that tutorial, it works for most everyone else without needing to manually add anything.

I have, but it isn't saying that the construction stuff isn't packed, and won't pack them when I press Auto.

Sod Vide. Pakrat all the way.

Bah! A packlist for bspzip directly is just fine. And more importantly, easy to batch, no room for manual error there.

How do you build the file list without spending a heap of time manually checking every texture and prop in your vmf?

I've never found a fast way to automate that on the command line, which is a huge advantage to the various gui based tools.

So far that hasn't been an issue, since I know exactly what custom stuff I use.

i used to be a pakrat fanatic too but then i learned vide can autopack model textures

which pakrat or at least the version i had could not

ive also dabbled with feeding a handwritten list into bspzip command line but maintaining such a list gets annoying given the existence of autopacking, especially with a map using a lot of assets like construction pack for example

I've had vide corrupt the paklump multiple times. I can't find consistency in it, whereas pakrat has only ever done it if I pack the same map multiple times between sessions. Otherwise vide is real nice.

You should let Riintouge know about that. VIDE is the only packing tool still in active development, so it's not like anyone else is going to step in to fix theirs.
