Help with map problems?

I couldn't find a "help section", so I figured this is the best place to post for help. I've run into various problems with Hammer, specifically:
  • Props, faces, and other things may disappear during compiling.
  • Area portals always appear closed.

These are just the major problems I'm having. I'll try to work out the others, but I might be back for help again.

I'm using the Ultimate Mapping Resource Pack because I couldn't get Hammer working before I downloaded it, and the maps I've been messing with were downloaded from the Valve Maps(Decompiled) thread.

A version of one of my compiled maps can be downloaded here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/m0rohj8mh3sh4wv/cp_dustbowl_red_vs_blu.bsp
It has many problems.

I don't know about the area portals, but the first one sounds kinda like you have a leak to me. Have you checked for leaks? If not go to view or map (I forget which) -> load pointfile. If it asks you to find a file there's no leak, if it auto-loads one there'll be a red line showing you what of your map is leaked (a hole between the inside and outside of your map)

It's not a map leak, it's an area portal leak.

It's your area portals and VVIS. This is like a ridiculous case of bad VVIS, I don't think I've seen it this bad before. You need to go through and check each area portal and make sure that they are enabled, set to open and properly sealing off the sections they are supposed to. Each area portal needs to be its own func_areaportal. You cannot select multiple area portal brushes and turn them into area portal brushes.

Now no new BSP files?

I'm trying to make a copy of my map now, but when I try to "run map", it won't create a new .bsp file. I tried to run it as cp_dustbowl_red_vs_blu_a_1, and tried it again using the original file. It will either not create a file, or when I compile cp_dustbowl_red_vs_blu (the first) it opens an old version of it. As in example, this is the command line from running cp_dustbowl_red_vs_blu_a_1:

** Command: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Team Fortress 2\bin\vbsp.exe"

Looks like a possible leak. And some cubemaps with dangling pointers.
