I don't know if it's just me messing up, but everytime I decompile with BSPSource or get the already decompiled Valve maps from this site, I'm missing tons of obvious stuff. Sometimes I'm missing control points, sometimes I'm missing entire 3d skyboxes, props, and other random things on the map. But it's no small amount either, I'm usually missing tons of obvious props and such.

I know decompiling isn't completely accurate, but I wouldn't expect it to be missing as much as it is. Do I have to turn something on or some option or something to make it work? And yes, all the visgroups are on when I check.

That's all still completely normal, decompiling being limited and whatnot.

I decompiled Borneo just to see how his 3D skybox was done and it literally wasn't even there. The skybox for it was there, but there was nothing inside. Extremely limiting.

Besides inaccurate, Inconsistent is a good way to define the decompiling process. Sorry that this particular one didn't yield good results.

You could always try unticking other entities in the decompiling window of vmex to see if it'll do better.

I use BSPSource because I thought vmex was broken. Is it better still?

Disabling certain options on the decompile is usually what helps, because the problems you describe sound like when the decompiler runs into something it doesn't understand (newer format or something) and chokes up giving you an incomplete VMF.

So I could potentially fix some of my problems if I use vmex instead of BSPSource and untick some entities? BSPSource doesn't give you that kind of control I don't think.

Possibly. At the very least I know VMEX can give you a detailed log of what it is doing or what is going wrong.

Ok, I'll give it a go. Thanks Snark! And I assume the latest version is the one I want?

happens with any decompiler, I end up just remaking every areaportal
