My new gameplay mode, thoughts?

My warmup map cp_trenchwar is pretty much finished. It isn't much to look at, but it's fully playable, and helped me to refamiliarize myself w/ the basic skills. I did in fact submit beta2, but it's nowhere near what I think of as a serious map. (actual time spent mapping for it is something like 4 days, lol) Started this evening on my first real project. Here's the gameplay I have setup; 1 flag in the middle, either team can take it, the capture zone is located in the enemy base. Basically reverse ctf w/ 1 flag.

I'm also considering adding a pickup delay once the flag is dropped. So the enemy drops the flag, but your team can't start carrying it back for x # seconds. Lastly, I'm trying to create a unique SD system. If the timer runs out, a deadly gas gets activated, slowly killing everybody. Flag counter gets set to 1=victory. I'm trying to ensure that there will never be a stalemate. One way or another, a team is going to win.

So what do you guys think? I know all of this is quite do-able in Hammer, but I don't know if it's a fun idea. And for the record, if this is the new gameplay mode that Valve releases, I thought of it first >.<

Yeah, I kinda thought that would be a given for sudden death. All health and lockers would be disabled. My big concern is that the rate of damage has to be larger/faster than a medic can regenerate, but not so much that scouts and spys die in 10 seconds.

Rock2 had a gas punishment system for loosing. It killed instantly, perhaps this would be better than dragging it out? Unless water counts as safety? Rock2's water was also protection from the gas (other than the environment suits). Instant death from gas isn't the most realistic event i know, but perhaps it would be better to gameplay than people running around going "argh, argh, argh, argh".

edit: Rock2 had a time delay to get to water or a suit, will there be a small delay to acquire safety if you did decide to implement this?

P.S.
Do you know if a nuetral flag is possible yet?

P.P.S.

A medic heals slowly whilst the target is taking damage, afterwards his healing efficiency increases. Hopefully this system Valve implemented would stop them from keeping someone alive. Have you considered ubers?

Hurts cut through ubers. Also, it seems like he wants it dragged out, unlike rock2. Can you use class filters on hurts? if so, you could have different rates for different classes. More work, but a possible solution.

For my next map, I was actually planning to do that exact same game type: 1 flag in the middle, push into the other side's base. I'm definitely planning to add a delay after dropping, so as to give a team a chance to maintain a little momentum. So, what I'm saying is, I like the idea ;)

Thanks for the feedback guys :) My idea for the death gas is that it only comes in during sudden death, in order to force a win. Atm, there's only a very small body of water in the map, so I don't think I'll be adding any protection from the event. I don't know if class filters even work for tf2, but it's certainly worth trying :)

There are already a few maps with this type of game play, so yes, it can be done. A slang term for it is called "football". I know JYNXED has it and also one of my maps (2 versions) called OVERDOSE.

Yeah, jinxed has already done this with a single neutral flag that you have to take into the enemy base.

What happens if everyone dies from the gas?

I don't think the gas idea is necessary, and I don't think it will make it much more fun either.
