I crash often when I click the flags tab of an entity, probably a similar problem. Unfortunately, I have no fix and still click the tab very sparingly, hoping it doesn't crash.

man, this would really suck!

just wanted to try and help by clarifying some stuff, it's kinda hard to understand what might be the cause of the problem.

as you describe it, it sounds like you're doing everything right but, hammer still crashes when you either place 3 entities, unless you place them by spamming, and it crashes when you change the entity type.

hammer works as intended on this end, so there must be something that's causing your crashes.

I believe I'm running the latest ABS, if by ABS you mean his map pack thing. Downloaded a fresh copy right as I started this thread.

yep, that's what i meant. it's short for A Boojum Snark's Team Fortress 2 Mapping Resource Pack.

So how I have it set up is when I place a point entity it is default to the info_teamspawn, the green gordon freeman guy.

just fyi: after installing the abs pack, this entity is replaced with a totally awesome blu/red engineer.

Any chance it's because steam apps installed to 2 different drives? I have a C: and F: that both have steam content on it. Do I need to migrate everything to one drive?

i would suggest working from just a single drive to remove the possibility of conflicts.

Video drivers are up to date, I'm actually somewhat obsessive about checking those. At least once a week I go to the site and check if there's a new one.

If the ABS pack updates the guy to an engineer then yup, i have the right one.

I doubt the two hard drive thing would be an issue, if it was then my laptop would not have crashed at the same exact place with the same exact repro steps. It only has a single hard drive in it.

Did a tools validation on the Source SDK under Tools in steam, still crashes whenever I touch the settings on the 3rd prop

i'm at a loss but i'd also verify TF2 game files, or re-install TF2, just to make sure everything is clean.

it did report 1 file failed to validate and would be reacquired. I launched TF2, closed it. Tried again and still crashes on the third prop :(

Important: One or more files may fail to verify.
This is normal for most Steam games. The files that fail to verify are local configuration files that should not be replaced as part of this process. You can safely ignore this message.

i'll stop spamming you with ideas now. good luck!

No, please keep spamming me until we fix this or rule it unfixable. I'm at work at the moment, but believe me the moment I get home I'll try to run through these options.

As for the software being closed/uninstalled, my main system does run 2 programs (creative software and catalyst software) so we have a hit there. BUT, my laptop runs neither of these and suffers the same fate. I will still try to run my main system without those 2 things and see if we get anywhere. Results tonight or tomorrow on that test.

Is your laptop also running 8.1? Maybe it's something in the OS. I would also update Windows if you haven't done that yet.

Laptop is running windows vista, which yes i know is a terrible bastard child of an OS in itself.

I dont run any software based firewalls, Windows Firewall was enabled. But I disabled it, and even added an exception for hammer just in case.

Closed any background processes that matched the list linked above. Did yet another file verification. AAND reinstalled ABS one more time.

still crashing.

Here's a link to my dxdiag.txt for fun :crying:
