Might I ask why there is the file naming restriction in the first place? It seems like it adds unnecessary confusion for something that really doesn't matter that much.

I've thought that about these contests as well. In the past the enforced naming convention for minicontests was good because it was a prefix, such as intelroom_<name>.bsp for our intel room detail contest, and this made it easy to remember and find the maps because you could just type "map intelroom" in the console and see an autocomplete list (or even "maps intelroom" and have it print the list).
When you are making real maps that should have the game mode prefix (so the intro board is correct) you can't really do that, but putting something at the end is useless because it doesn't help because you simply have to know what the maps are. It becomes more useless when a suffix is reused for several contests, meaning there is no "it was for THIS" contest label, and there will be numbers slapped on it too.

I keep the enforcement of that rule because it's easier for me to jump to maps if i need to test them or look at them. Someone can say 'hey, I think nightwatch's map is crashing the server' ... I can then quickly check that and not have to go look for the correct file name and such.

It's an organizational thing to make my life easier, basically. ... and it's needed with the amount of maps we usually get.

I see your point but don't necessarily agree with it. After this contest I know I will have 2 cp_nightwatch_72s, and one of them will be cp_nightwatch_72_2, and that's going to be a nightmare for me even though I made them (well, not the second one yet) and I should know the difference between them. I guess it's a little late now but it would have been cool if during the first contest every map was prefixed 72, and during the second contest every map prefixed 72_2, because then it would be universal and there would be an understandable system. I understand that you can't change it now but it's something to think about for next year, perhaps.

Also, something I've been doing when running impromptus recently is just keeping a small text file with the file names of the maps we'll be testing in order, because when it comes time to test the next map I often forget the version name myself.

If you're planning to develop your map post-72hr for the 2skillset contest, you can change the name for that. The submission for 72hr is the only thing that needs to follow the naming convention outlined in the rules.

The universal numbering idea isn't bad. I'll consider it for the next contest.

So I asked this in chat but wasn't 100%... I have a non 72 hour map called pl_crash. I plan on making another payload map for this contest. Is the _72 going to be enough to distinguish it or should I iterate it?

Not that rare at all. pl_ym_72 already exists from 2011, I can't use it again either.

For general information: I will be happy to announce and start imp testing any time i'm online: feel free to message me. However, this weekend is finals weekend, so I would strongly prefer to be working. As such, while I will happily announce, i'd very much prefer if someone else could change maps.

I think this was an issue with some stuff last time, when I asked for some kind of testing (even during gradeyard, and I understood that there would be few people but I still wanted it tested in some way) there was a lot of mods reluctant. Please just put the map on. The end of my day is during graveyard, so it would be good if I could get some testing so thanks for your gr8 offer.

Right now I feel like streaming for the rest of the contest, we'll see how that goes.
I'll be up there for a bit though.
