O hai gais.

I've been working on this most of the summer, mostly about two weeks in July. Since then I haven't really touched Source SDK, so now I am making this topic to hopefully commit myself to finishing it :p

I wanted to make a small and hopefully fastpaced ctf map (I haven't playtested it yet), and so far I think it should live up to that :)

The premise is this: Deep in the mountains both RED and BLU have set up secret bases where they are both planning to launch a rocket into space for the sake of showing the enemy their greatness. However both RED and BLU are missing vital charts and schematics, and rather than making these themselves they decide to steal them from the opposite team to save time.

To do:
Displacements! - I suck at these, hence I hate them, hence I postpone them as much as possible. Includes fixing the rock textures.
Battlements - Can't really do them before displacements are done :(
Lighting - It's probably about 50% done right now.
Props - Also about 50% done. It's mostly the inside of the base that needs to look a little more like it's actually being used.
BLU's base isn't even started yet. I'm doing RED's first then reversing it.

25 screenshots!

Main room, as seen from the lower spawn

Front room seen from the right entrance

And from the left entrance

The computer room, not accessible for the player

The tunnel and upper spawn seen from the main room

A view down the tunnel, this is seen from the entrance in the base

About halfway down the tunnel

Intelligence "room" seen from the main room of the base.

View from right outside the door with rocket, platform and intelligence

Better view of the rocket

Left part of the intelligence area with a control room, wires and stuff.

Control room and base seen from the bottom of the rocket

Better view of the ramp leading up to the platform around the rocket

The platform and intelligence. This shadow is hard to get rid of, any ideas?

Main room in base seen from the inner ramp

Outer ramp view of rocket area

Blast door at the end of the outer ramp.

Upper door leading to sniperdeck and battlements

Sniper deck view of rocket

View from one end to the other. Both ends have cover

Inside the sniper "house" that provides better cover, coming from the stairs

Better view

Base as seen from the battlements area.

It looks good.

Of course, it would look much better if you did those displacements. I know you said you hate them, but you're going to have to do them some time anyway. :p
There's a guide for displacement cliffs here:

I've got to complain about the brick wall textures...I don't think they look good. Surely I can't be the only one who thinks that texture is bad?

You've also got some very strange shadows in some parts of your map. I'm sure you know about them yourself. I'm no expert, but I think that could be because of a leak.

No I agree about the bricktexture but I didn't really want to use the standard red wood wall :/ Still looking for a better alternative.
And the shadows yeah, I just don't know how to get rid of them. I'm almost certain it's not a leak but I guess I can check again.

Yeah, I guess there aren't that many alternatives if you want something red. But remember, the RED base doesn't literally have to be red - warm colors are enough. Regular wood is good. And I don't think a gray concrete wall texture would look very wrong either, as long as BLU's got something different (like metal).
