Rules and Information | Upload Thread | Voting Thread

Rules:
  • 2048x2048 size. No height limit.
  • 3D skybox is allowed.
  • Must submit one screenshot and a .BSP.
  • Custom content is allowed, but only made entirely by yourself using your own resources, Valve's content or if is available to the public as of now (Made by someone else).
  • No game logic is required, but players should be able to walk around the area of the map to see your details from multiple perspectives.
  • Maximum of two entry.
  • You must have at least one spawn point in your map.
  • Your map must be TF2 styled. (No other valve games/other games)
  • Your submission MUST follow this naming convention: detail_<forum name>.bsp (If your forum name is stupidly long, compromise on your name, not the prefix. eg. detail_vfig.bsp for Velvet Fist Iron Glove's entry)
  • Everything must be finished and submitted in the upload thread before 9:00PM EST on Tuesday September 10th 2013! I will toss up the the upload thread a week or so before the contest ends.

In your submission (in the submission thread, Will be posted at a later date):
  • A link to your .bsp in one compressed (.zip or .bz2) archive. Use the tf2maps.net contest area or dropbox.
  • Please make sure ALL content is pakrat'd into your BSPs, but remember that you must be the author of all content submitted.
  • You should provide only one screenshot of your map, taken at the best gfx quality your pc can handle, no HUD elements or player models either. For more information on how to do this, click here.

FAQ:
What can we map?
You can map anything so as long as it abides by the rules. Take a look at the previous detail contest winners for some examples.

Does the 3d skybox also have to be inside the 2048x2048 space?
Yes, the skybox must fit within the limits, however remember that there is no limit to height so you can put it above or below the map safely.

Do the skybox texture brushes also have to fit inside the 2048x2048 space or can I place them outside that?
Any visible geometry must be built inside the 2048x2048 space, but yes, you can place the skybox texture outside of that area.

Is it okay to have props slightly sticking out of the 2048 squared area?
Yes, as long as both the origin of the prop is inside the 2048x2048 space, and the edge of the prop does not go farther than 256 units past the 2048. (So we don't get any extreme exploits).

Will sound in the map also be judged as detail?
The judging process at the end of the contest is essentially players wandering through maps and voting on whichever they liked best in a forum poll. So you should add anything that would help give the illusion of the scene (so yes to audio).

Can I donate to the prize stash?
Absolutely you can, both the winner and I would appreciate it! :p

Is custom content that has been publicly released (but not the work of the mapper) allowed? For example, assets from the Swamp theme or the bulletcrops set.

EDIT : I don't know how I missed the relevant line, sorry.

Mappers have to build a detailed scene within the 2048x2048 hammer unit bounds and submit it before the deadline (September 10th).
