Pyro is almost officially a girl now

Considering that the previous sentence makes a Frankenstein reference, and that they use "he" and not "it" in that last sentence, I'd say this questions his humanity (e.g., "If he even is a human?") and not his gender ;)

I know Valve is going to !@#$ over the mysterious character they gave the pyro and announce what "it" is. And they'll most likely announce it as a girl, thanks to the increasing demands of the idiots at the steam forums who don't have any sense of game/character design.

Personally, I'd rather see the pyro continue to just be that motile fire suit. It's the mystery that gives the pyro character despite just mumbling in game.

I completely agree. I seriously hope they never reveal anything about what's under the mask. It would ruin the character for me. The mysteriousness is what makes him so lovable... the Pyro is like the Teddy Bear of TF2, seriously :D That would be like showing what's under Edd's hat (Ed Edd n Eddy) - lame. Just leave it at that. But I have trust in Valve that they know what makes their characters what they are and will do the right thing.

Who cares, and I bet valve will play tricks like forever, because the pyro is just the pyro, they won't show you who is in the suit :)

But they didn't say human, they said man...
Anyways, I don't particularly want the pyro to be a girl or a boy. I agree that it is good as a mystery. Also, the chances of a woman being able to work her way into a male company back when the whole nation was more sexist aren't very likely.

I don't care what gender the pyro is, but I do want to see meet the pyro like mad, I really want to see where they take it. Of course it wont change my playing habits either way.
(pyro is voiced by the same actor as the spy)

Exactly, and he sounds like a man too.

Maybe slightly offtopic, but I wouldn't mind if they make female alternatives. I would totally play as a female demoman.

I think Valve is just enjoying the ambiguousness of the Pyro and they like letting us wonder, like with Pat. They may not even know themselves.

But for some reason I don't want it to be a girl. It would go against the character's design.

Nah, I think that's just a just a joke on if he is a human or not. because well, you cant see his face, can't hear his voice clearly. its kinda like saying he's more fire retardant than man, if you get what I mean.

Has anyone considered that Valve maybe never intended to give the Pyro a gender? The Pyro is faceless and speaks in a muffled voice that could resemble both a male and a female (with a somewhat deep voice, but those people exist too), and I think the way Valve teases with a purse in the closet and "speculation" on the playing card, they're clearly intending for people to have fun/get very angry at eachother while speculating what the truth could be.

Outside of a few characters referring to their whole team as men/boys/fellas, the characters' genders really don't play any sort of role in this game at all. Actually, can we really be sure that any of them is male? Have you ever had a peek into the pants of the Heavy? Maybe he's...neither?

TF2 and character genders do not match. I rarely engage debates about the Pyro's gender, because he (and I say he because it's rude to call a person "it") is simply a caricature of a stereotypic personality, like all the other characters.

What I'd like to see in Meet The Pyro, so as to not reveal his face/voice, is to have the Spy on translator duty (he obviously speaks pyroese, what with the disguising and all). I think that could be very amusing if done good. :D
