OP:
Couldn't find a support section anywhere - just discussions, so Off-topic it is! Sorry if this is the wrong section, and if there is a support section, you guys are good at hiding it!

Anyways;
Recently started with Hammer and Blender again after a while of downtime, and whilst playing Team Fortress 2 maps and sketching to get fresh ideas - Steam told me to optimize my files, and I thought "Sure, why not? Can't hurt, can it?" - but it has hurt me... REALLY bad.

After this, fudge-up of an optimization - my Hammer editor does not function.

I've run all the possible fixes, even stuff from before. Went thru my Cfg's numerous times, refreshed both game cache, sdk cache and sdk content. Reset game cfg from SDK launcher, edited it to match the new folder (/steam/steamapps/common/team fortress 2/tf) which is the new hiding place for the cfg and game files.

But NOTHING is working. I've searched the web for at least 12 hours for a possible fix, but have come up empty handed.

Problems I'm having to get you started (Ask me if you need more information);

  • Config location resets every now and then, and I have to manually switch the location in the Source SDK Launcher
  • "Failed to load the default scheme file. The map views may be missing some visual elements." error.

I've reinstalled Team Fortress 2, Source SDK and Steam. Cleared .blob files (Some guy allegedly fixed his issue doing this, but all I got was the Steamguard email in return).

I'd appreciate a solution for this somewhat... Frustrating matter, before I'm out of money to buy new monitors and keyboards.

Solved the issue.

My solution;
Right click Team Fortress 2 inside the Steam Library > Select Properties > Beta > Opt in for sdktools_beta

Let it finish updating TF2. Navigate to "/steam/steamapps/common/team fortress 2/bin/hammer.exe" and enjoy.

Mapping help belongs in the Mapping Discussion section, for future reference.

As for your actual problem, this is most likely the result of the recent SteamPipe conversion. Here are some threads about it, hopefully you can get your SDK back up and running.

Technically it's tech assistance, since it's effecting not only hammer but Source SDK as it's whole and Team Fortress 2.

Thank you for those links, I'll check them out.

All right, so... Went thru all the hassle of manually configuring Hammer according to https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Hammer_Manual_Configuration

And no luck there either - I guess it's like what those threads have to say; Hammer does not read .vpk files. I reckon we have to wait for an update or auth. tool kit.

Thanks again Idolon. Broken many keyboards and monitors trying to solve this mystery.
