Funnily enough I finally got around to learning modeling basics too (esp. UVing)

I took a macuahuitl at modeling

For anyone starting modelling now here's a link to loads of useful stuff for TF2 modelling http://www.kritzkast.com/tf2_mod_guide , for items but a large portion of it is helpful for props too. I'd suggest not starting with Blender but signing up for a free student licence and learning 3DS Max or even Maya, dont pick up the most recent build though, 2010 or 2011 are the ones that work with TF2 stuff the best IIRC

edit: hm, now that i look at it, the compression desecrated the image quality more than i would have wished for.

I've been meaning to pick up 3ds for the longest time (I'm already familiar with Inventor) but I just never got around to it.

The similarities between 3dmax and inventor stop at the gui. you can tell the same company makes both programs, but ultimately both serve different purposes, and ergo have different workflows. That's not to say you cannot do things in max that you can do in inventor, max just isn't made for such things. Nevertheless, a good 3D perception never hurts. :)

Now out of work - got bored - heard an argument over who's a better player - a Warpath one or a Payload Extremist.

So...I did a payload tug of war map on warpath for something to do. Here's a screenshot of the finished version.

Now before you go all postal on my ass saying it's just a valve map - I did learn a LOT from doing this on the coding end.

Enjoy!

some more ribs.

What exactly is that?

it's the reworked, upgraded, and improved rib cage of this guy (which is a project i've been working on for half a decade, obviously with year-long gaps in between periods of frantic activity):

Which in-turn is very loosely inspired by the mech from ghost in the shell.

>warpath
>a valve map

Ya - like I said in the post - it's nothing special - just did it for some friends and to learn some new coding - the coding was more key to me than making a brush and applying a texture to it.
