Files lost?

Hi,

Steam was giving me a problem so I reinstalled everything new.

When I dragged and dropped my existing mapsrc file into the new one it dumped the files in my folder and just kept the files that were currently there – usually it just adds in the new stuff.

I eventually tried a file restore program from the net and did get the files back or at least the properties give me an indication that something’s there (i.e. 12 MB).

When I try to open in hammer 1 of 2 things is happening.

1. For very simple maps I made for testing stuff – basically 1 room – the map opens in hammer but there’s nothing there at all.
2. For larger maps – it starts loading gets to 5% and then locks up. Tried to open different maps – they all lock up. Just in case you think I wasn’t being patient – I tried opening a map over 7 hours and it remained frozen.

Any clues to what I can do? It might be the restoration program I used – maybe it didn’t restore the file correctly.

Any good file restore programs out there that you could recommend?

I restored the vmx files and changed the names over to vmf - a lot of textures and overlays we missing bu at least I saved my files.
