Bumping this because yeah, I also really.. reeaally want a Dota 2 beta key! So if you would have any spare key left, and you don't know anybody else to gift it to, Hanz would love you if you gave him one! :3

What do you mean, "by extension"? Because I'd hate for someone to waste a precious beta key on someone who has little interest in this genre and no intention of actually learning how to play it, but if you have nine of the things just sitting around gathering digital dust, I wouldn't say no just for a chance to see what it looks like up close. I've heard surprisingly good things about its graphics, and you know me, I love keeping up with what Valve is up to with their engine technology.

Considering it's two years since Alien Swarm was released and we have yet to see any of its maps ported to anything else, I wouldn't count on it.

Especially because you can't straight-open the de-compiled bsp in any public version of hammer.

Man, if only we could modify the Dota 2 map...

One slight bug I have with the Dota 2 map is that it's not 100% symmetrical, especially creep camps and jungle corridors. I recognise that it was probably a judgement call in favour of aesthetics, but it would be interesting to see the exact percentages of Dire:Radiant wins as evidence.
There's probably nothing in it, though.

Didn't they publish those just the other day? I thought I saw that exact statistic..

It's close enough to 50/50 that the error contain the difference. You have to remember, that the BASES are symmetrical, the rest of the map is technically "no mans land" and can be favourable/not favourable for your fight no matter what team your on. Dire can still be fighting uphill if they come from behind radient...etc...

You could say that. Or you could say that the original WC3 mapper didn't actually care about the layout that much and now everyone just copies it

On a professional level, Radiant has the higher winrate because they get first pick to compensate for map imbalance.

If first pick was awarded randomly, I think we'd see Dire have the higher winrate as they have the way stronger safelane (3 possible pulls, proximity of the small and medium camps) and Rosh is on their side (which is a MASSIVE deal)

But, first pick is an even bigger deal than the map balance, so we see the winrate favouring Radiant. Also because of EU's popularization of the small camp mid pull, Radiant's midlane is stupidly easy to win these days.

Idk. I like the asymmetry. Overall it's well balanced for pubs and gives each side a lot of flavour.
