Museum stuff?

Hi all!

I´m making a map themed as a museum, but I only find Mann Manor or Coal Town props to detail it, and nothing about the BLU team, any idea?

It look very good and it could be en excellent prop for the museum, but I as thinking in a museum about the history of Mann CO, RED and BLU. The problem is that I don't find any BLU old por ancient stuff, like Mann Manor, por something like this.

But the T-Rex could a be an interesting point in the centre of the map...

I recommend you plan out your map and make it in dev textures before you worry about populating it with detailing. If we like how it plays, someone is bound to volunteer to make some art assets.

Ok, I´m going to begin whit the basic map. I don´t know if I´m going to do a KOTH map or a CTF map.

I just can agree on what steve said.

Drop your plans of making a map with a special theme.
Nobody will contribute a texture or a model,
since you don't even have an idea what gamemode you should choose.
It's tons of work do create a well playing map.
You can thing about a special theme after your 5th map or something.

Because your first map WILL suck.
There has been exceptections, but regular the first few maps are crap.
I know that those are hard words, but I don't want to discourage you.
If anything, I want to help you.

Start some maps with a basic layout.
Try to analyse and rebuild areas of valve maps, to understand the scale and gameplay.
And as soon as you see there is something bad in you map, fix it.
Or if it's a big problem, scrap the whole map and start a new one.
As soon as you learned something from a project. It was worth the time.

Basically, you want to start with a solid skeleton. You can keep your museum ideas in mind when making this skeleton, but your focus should be to make the map play well. When the skeleton is done, THAT'S where you can start putting on a beautiful skin.

Think of manor. It started out like this, and even tho it was clearly not designed for it, it ended up as the manor we know today!
Art in TF2 is really flexible, but if you make those two simultaneously, you risk ending up with a weak skeleton.

Ok, I will do your recomendations.

Is not really my first map, but I never finished them.

I really want to do the museum theme, so I´m going to begin whit the skelleton of the map that I got on mind. If any of yours discover a mistake, I will fix it.

Is my first "big map" so I´m going to make it a bit simple and indoors, i think

Ok, I´m working in my first map before the museum one: koth_minelab

It´s a KOTH map set in a RED facility under an abandoned mine

These are some screenshots of the mid point, without skybox, lighting, some detailing, cubemaps and a bit more:
