What would you think of a 2 point SD 'invasion' style map?

The flag is somewhere in the middle of the map, and the teams must push the flag/Austrailium into some odd bomb contraption near the opposing team's spawn.

I don't think I have the experience to properly balance a map like that right now, but I was wondering what you thought of the idea.

the more unique ideas, the merrier. I've almost forgotten what it's like to work on a "standard" map

This is just Invade CTF but with one flag and non-instacaps. Like Gpuzzle said, it's kind of been done before (except nobody knows about it because people hate CTF).

In my personal opinion, what is going to determine a balanced and enjoyable Special Delivery map is going to be the interaction between the flag and the rocket.

Doomsday makes a lot of mistakes when it comes to efficiency and layout. The entire transition between the rocket combat area and the flag pick-up area feels clunky to navigate and unaware if it's supposed to be a combat area or just a transition.

The sightlines are atrocious, often allowing the sniper free range of the rocket area while being in a easily defensible position.

Routes are underpowered and random. The sewer pipe is both a longer and more dangerous alternative to the height advantageous mine/tunnel routes.

The health and ammo is bonkers. Three major health packs and two major ammo packs sit in a tight radius around the rocket.

What we really need with Special Delivery is experimentation: less hightowers, more interesting relationships between the flag and the rocket. Timers changed. Entities tweaked. Otherwise, with only Doomsday to limp it along, Special Delivery will go the way of TC and CTF - only touched by those who are crazy enough to attempt.

I think SD by itself is a alright gamemode, it's Doomsday that gives it its poor reputation.

I'd personally like to see Special Delivery maps with a more original premise. The gamemode logic is created almost entirely through hacks anyway, up to and including the announcer line triggers, so get creative with it. It's australium, the world's most powerful element! It can be used to power things other than a rocket. The only thing you lose out on is the lines about Poopy Joe.
