Are there any alternatives to $reflectivity?

Hello there.

I wondered if there's a "global" version of reflectivity that'd allow you to make every surface a bit brighter, rather than editing every vmt separately for the map. I tried it via tonemap, but so far, the results are rather mediocre...

I haven't really messed with $reflectivity myself, but this tutorial only applies it on the floor texture, and it ends up affecting the surrounding walls and ceiling. So, as long as your floor isn't too complex with multiple textures, you should be able to just create a couple modified floor texture VMT files with $reflectivity added in.

I wonder what kind of map you're trying to make where this would be an issue. VRAD is based on how light bounces in real life, so chances are whatever you're trying to do is going to look unnatural.

This may sound stupid, but if you want to make everything appear brighter, why not just make your lights brighter?
