That's right, December 25th is almost here, and that means the Smissmas season is once again upon us. Now we know some people will be celebrating a different holiday next Tuesday, and for all of you, let us be the first to say: Happy Constitution Day, China! But regardless of what event you're planning to honor, whether it's Quaid-e-Azam's Day, the 1837 Battle of Okeechobee, or Star Trek: Deep Space Nine producer Rick Berman's sixty-sixth birthday, rest assured that, on the inside, we're all celebrating the same thing. And that thing is Smissmas. Because it's the best holiday. Need proof? Check out all the new stuff we're shipping soon in a joyful, dangerous explosion of Smissmas updating.

Comic #333

The raccoon has 3 black stripes on its tail. In real life, they have several more

There are 9 windows on the Gray Gravel Co tower. 3 x 3 = 9. Also 3 silos, 3 major peaks on the island, and the sun is approx. 3 degrees above the horizon behind it. There are also 3 things holding up the road to the island

Many panels have at least 3 characters in them

The pipes in the locker room area (Gorge? The 30th map added?) are grouped together (3 total)

The engineer bot is 3 colors (blue, yellow, gray) (gray == GRAY MAnn??)

3 humans infiltrate Gray Gravel Co, and they are wearing 3 robot costumes (1 each, 1x3=3)

3 doves on the cover of the comic (near soldier)

3 screens below the comic. The buttons on the consoles are all multiples of 3

3 new specific weapons

New map, "Big Rock" -- anagram of "Big Cork" -- for a champagne bottle? celebration??

Entire update poster mimics "GOJIRA 3", GOJIRA has 6 letters, 6/2=3

It's coming boys -- march third 3333. cant wait, hope I can get into a cryogenic freezer to see it when it launches

New grenade launcher and medigun? I can't wait to see what madness they have in store.

EDIT: Oh, and...

I learned something else today: December 25 is actually Taiwan's Constitution Day, not China's. Thanks, TV Tropes! We'll just call it even for the three hours you stole from my life this evening.

Fraser from Video Games Awesome pointed out that the new engie gun could be ridiculously overpowered because you could use it to yoink your chokepoint-covering sentry out of the way and hide just as the enemy team comes along to take it out with an uber. But on the other hand, then you don't have a sentry covering the chokepoint anymore, so who knows.

Then there's the fact that sentry jumping is way easier now; you can use your sentry to send you up to a high ledge and teleport it straight up to you fully upgraded instead of having to rebuild it from scratch.

And then there is the fact that you can basically equip the Eureka Effect and the Rescue Ranger and basically outsmart the Eureka Effect's downside.

So I think with the downsides and all that it isn't that bad, but teleporting your sentry from halfway across the map is just ridiculous.

However, it also means that you're putting your sentry in a position easily attackable by snipers from the new positions, so in certain gamemodes like koth and plr this will hardly be a problem.

See, this right here is a perfect example of why I wish this game let you mix and match certain sidegrade attributes rather than tying them to specific weapons that you have to choose between. In such a scenario, you could equip an ability that lets you suck up your buildings in exchange for being marked for death whenever you're building/upgrading, OR one that trades moving buildings for being able to teleport to spawn, and still choose between standard sentries and minisentries. Or, as a medic, sidegrade any of your mediguns so they build uber based on kill assists rather than total accumulated healing points. And so on.

A good, class-based shooter built around these sorts of RPG elements from the get-go could pull off something like this easily. Team Fortress 2 wasn't even designed with unlockable weapons in mind, so it's stuck shoehorning new ideas in awkwardly like this.
