We really should bring back server staff, and give a handful of active people that rank. We really need more gamedays than just yyler's

(give me server staff)

If people want to run Gamedays or events they really don't need to have Server staff, I ran Gamedays for like 9 months without anything other than V.I.P. Sponsor status.

People don't get Server staff to run events, they get it because they run events.

Clearly that system is working very well seeing as we're down to one gameday a week.

What is required to lead a gameday? I do think people would like more since the last one had a full server with several people in queue. It might be something I could do, but it depends to what is needed.

Time, and dedication. And some money.

You have to pay for the VIP status that lets you use the server commands for changing maps/scramble teams/extend time and upload maps.
Also in the hidden VIP forum there's a post outlining what you should think about when running a gameday.

Mostly it's time and dedication though. It's a lot of manual work, setting it up, informing people, uploading maps, and then actually participate and run the event. Then do it again every week.

There's no restriction on who can host them, anyone who wants to can have a go. You don't have to ask for permission to post in the events forum.
Fastest way to get it ready and rolling would be to contact either yyler (who is running gamedays now), or theharribokid (who ran them previously) and ask either of them for help in getting started.

I see, I don't have PayPal, but that could obviously be settled.

I'll think about it, it seems fun to do!

kind of an addendum to my previous post, but vip isn't really good enough since they need a staff member to put up events, which in the past has proven to be next to impossible (read: why impromptus never happen anymore)

I think this is a pretty valid point. To even get an announcement for my regular gameday, I have to hope that Ravidge or Tech are online and around, because Snacks never is at that time and neither is literally any other staff member. And that's kind of a shame, you know? What would happen if I couldn't get an announcement?

By the way, VIP is pretty nice. It makes your name green and helps the site stay online. I encourage anyone that likes the site to donate some money so they can change maps. It's fun to be a donor, trust me!

I think that is pretty unfair. I've answered every request for event announcements that I have received/seen, except for two (counting for the past 3 or so months), one of which I missed because I was sleeping. Multiple times I've even gotten out of bed and done announcements for people in the middle of the (european) night.

Putting the blame for lack of impromptus on staff isn't right, I think the more believable reason is that people who used to initiate impromptus aren't around anymore, and no one is picking up from where they left off. Every time I got a message about impromptu events, it was always someone from the same small pool of people, which now is empty.

Because if people were actually trying to get a event announcement, I should've been getting a lot more messages both on IRC and steam.
The people who requested the events are gone, it's not because of missing group officers. IMO.

We are expanding on the site staff/group officers, thats the entire reason for this thread.
But steam is so wonderfully stupid that there is no middle group between: 'ALL the power' and 'no power at all', so of course steam event creation is always going to be a issue, but so far it's not a major one. I'm just saying that, the vast majority of event requests that I receive, get answered, and that I'm not getting nearly the same amount I was say 1 year ago.

I'm not accusing the staff willfully ignoring requests for group events, or saying that it was any fault of their own that they're not around all day long, I'm just highlighting that that has been the main roadblock to impromptus back when I used to push for them.

That power may or not be reserved to the owner of the group. (That is, no one at the moment can change for our group. I couldn't access it when I tried, but that was beta so I could be wrong and it was just buggy)

The owner is not drp, and someone would have to contact Armadillo of Doom to get the powers re-assigned, if this is the case.

But, this was mentioned to me before I left, and I left a note about it in the mod cave also.

If somebody out there is planning to run gamedays, but an inability to buy VIP is an issue for them, let me know. I don't have the time to myself, but I could buy someone who DOES a few months VIP if this is a real issue.

This might be something, getting Paypal for a single donation here seems a bit of a pain (It really isn't used anywhere where I live either) - Perhaps I could gift you a steam game of choice for the given price of the VIP membership?

Or something else that I can do with steam money, since it's far easier for me to transfer from my account.

I uh, I don't think the staff uses donation funds to buy Steam games. In fact I am pretty sure they use donation funds to help pay for the server, web hosting, etc.

PayPal is pretty useful whether you think you will use it or not. It's pretty much just for online transactions, so I don't know why the place you live has anything to do with it. It's got about the same ease of use as Steam does, as well. You'll be fine.

Yes, I know. It was in the case that if Swordfish would buy VIP and I would give him a steam game or something in return. It'd be far easier since everything I want to buy online can be done via bank transactions anyway.

Not saying it can't be done, but I would much rather do this. If Swordfish agrees that is, I can understand he might not be interested in games at the moment.
