Looking for playtesters...

I'm pretty new to mapping (and the forum) but I'm looking for advice on how to find some playtesters. I don't have a very large "friends" list, and I'd prefer some unbiased analysis. I often have my server up, but waiting around for people to randomly drop in is aggravating, and not very productive. Is there a thread around here that points to a place/method for playtesting? TIA

id say a large friends list would usually be your best bet, or you could find a tf2 group that would be interested in trying out your maps

Look out for our next Gameday post, and put in a request for map testing. You could also hop on our official server, or any of the servers from our partner site, Coltsplayground.net If you're feeling brave, you could also post in the official Valve tf2 forums and ask for some peeps.

Thanks!

The server's always online, unless I'm uploading a new build.

Server: 76.74.253.58:27015
Map: Entropy (CP) beta 2

The map is unique (I think). It's definitely not your average TF2 map. It's a four cap attack/defend map (BLU att/Red def). The map is great for snipers, a lot of open space, but with just enough confinement in areas to keep things interesting. Multiple routes in front of and behind most caps give good spies an advantage as well.

There's a mid field respawn for BLU once they cap point B and a portal to cap A from RED's spawn that's only active during setup (helpful for NG's to get setup on A). It's a big map, but a heavy can run from RED spawn to BLU spawn in about 60 seconds.

Other than that, there is a (optional) large dark room in the center that links cap B, C, and D (with a BIG RED hazard strip running along the edge). Catwalks provide safety from the water below, it kills in about 3 seconds and there's no way out, so don't fall in.

I'd love some comments, suggestions, hate mail, whatever. I've gotten some really good suggestions from other playtests in earlier builds, and have made some significant improvements.

I'm usually on it after 6:00 PM (GMT-6) but there server's online 24x7.

would be happy to ensure it gets a testing on the Playground servers mate. You'll get more interest from the regs there if you make a post announcing you are developing the map, in the Mapping Lab on the playground forum - 'just a hello, colt mentionned i should announce me new map in development here - to find out all details visit my thread on tf2maps.net about it'. That way, people can grab it before they play, or at least have the option of. Our members and regs love testing new maps in development - and will keep their feedback to the post you make in the mapping lab - to enable you to actually enjoy playing it - and take the stick later :p I do point them here to give their feedback - but unfortunately not all of them are mappers and dont seem to want to wander too far.

Until its at beta its not going to get onto the Teamplay server (with the caveat that if it contains our 'map under development' decal then it may be tested on the teamplay from alpha on.....just cos that decal is a marker that this is a special test map and our members allow them extra 'imagination'. It can however be played as many times as you like on the TF2Maps.net/CP Map Lab server.
