I don't like segmenting the knowledge base with other websites to visit, but sure whatever.

Well it's putting the information on a website that you can bookmark instead of having to open a filebrowser and find wherever you put the pictures.

So you mean you want to host the images so that they can be viewed online? Otherwise why can't people just bookmark this page.

Although i did notice that right now the DB links are down and that could be a continuing issue, but then i don't see why they can't be hosted by tf2maps itself.

YM, if you do something more creative than just a site where you can browse through the images, than yes, I'd say that's a good idea.

Perhaps categories for certain styles of detailing, or highlights of specific types of detailing. Something like that. Make it actually more useful than just screenshots and take advantage of it being a website then I think it's a great idea.

Otherwise, no, I have the folder that contains these screenshots favorited in the side bar of my file browser, so a bookmarked site would not be much more useful.

I did consider setting up a tag system so that you could view all images with "spytech" or "alpine" etc. It might be a bit beyond my internet abilities but I'm sure I could cobble it together.

Yes grazr I mean hosting them on my site rather than the download pack.

Other advantages include:
  • No redownloading when new maps are released, just waiting for me to take new shots and tag them.
  • Could be expanded easily to non valve maps at any time
  • Works on any workstation without downloading 7zip or any archives (So people can research away from home)
  • Images can be hotlinked and shared though instant messengers so you can say "THIS, this is what I mean" (Great for forum usage)
  • Could be expanded to other games

How about we ask DABP and see what he has to say...

Since, it's his stuff.

Well there's nothing stopping anyone else producing a similar archive. Though i do think it would be something that might be more appropriately integrated into TF2maps rather than another seperate resource.

IE we already have the sub-domains for our contests and asset packs. It seems logical to me to allow people to only have to come to one place to get all this stuff. Though we'd have to speak to DrP because who knows what this'll do to (our) bandwidth if a ton of these images get hotlinked around. My photobucket images of 2fort got smashed (quality wise) by constant hotlinking; and appear in the top searches for 2fort in google even and the site clamped the quality to reduce file size.

Well I proposed it because I know I have unlimited bandwidth and unlimited hosting space on my current package. There's no reason there couldn't be a sticky thread linking to it so people can still find it through the forums here.

So, I really like this library and use it quite often, but because it's not updated to reflect new maps, I have to make my own new folders with reference pictures. Considering how big of an update MvM was and the inevitable storm of MvM maps that sit on our horizon, I decided to upload my MvM reference picture folders if anyone wants to add them to DaBeatz' collection.

You just drag, drop and merge the mvm_decoy, mvm_coaltown, mvm_mannworks and leveloverviews folders.

Thank this post if you found them at all useful so I know if anyone wants me to do this again in the future (in the event that DaBeatz doesn't update his awesome library).

I actually do have them in a folder buried somewhere on my pc. I'll look for it when I'm home.

Sweet! It'd be awesome if we could get this up and running again. This was always super useful when doing detailing.

Thanks for this bump, didn't know this kind of reference picture catalog existed (or used to exist).

Here it is!

Updated the OP as well with at least a new download link. This is pretty dead, but at least we can provide the download still.

Sweet! Thanks crash :D

I might make a new post and take pics of newer maps too. I was thinking about redoing the whole thing, but this should save me a bunch of time.

Thanks for keeping this alive! I'll try and restore the links to the map title headers if I can still find the original files.
