Falling through Elevators

I'm having an issue where players are falling throught my 1st stage evelvator when it comes back up from the pit. (I'm changing the payload model from empty god cart to full gold cart - looks kinda cool)

I've tried a func_brush, func_door, and a prop_dynamic but they either fall through as it starts or 3/4 of the way up to the top.

There's a model last stage of beerbowl for the elevator (maybe it has something to do with the speed of it) but you can ride that model up without any issues.

Is there any way I guarantee that they can ride back up?

If not I'm thinking I should place a kill trigger at the bottom - so players die (warning signs ahead of time) or putting a player clip over the hole but it would look weird having people levitating over a hole and not falling in.

edit: I may have a gameplay workaround (but fixing the above is more preferable method) the workaround is this:
Cart rolls onto lift - Gate over lift closes (with a hole just big enough for the cart to go through) - lift and cart go done - if player falls through hole, they die - yep nice simple fix. Cart comes back up gate opens - blue pushescart gain :)
