So Ive looked around the forums and couldnt find any helpful tutourials on how to install or add textures to Hammer. So I have the two file packs i want to add. The tech walls texture pack and a metal walls texture pack both dowloaded from here. I didnt have any README's to read so I just extracted them to tf. well now I have two tf folders, (one inside the other) and no new textures for hammer. I've looked around the internet and none of the tutorials are very helpful. A nice explanation or walkthrough would be nice. I'd hate to settle for this map im making. Thanks.

OK, I can barely read your post, but you need to merge the tf/ folders, not nest them. I'm not sure why that was your first thought.

You'll see things like tf/models and tf/materials. These are your main custom content folders. Maps obviously go in tf/maps. Most downloads do come with a readme, but it's not like you should need one, it is pretty simple.

To be fair i made this mistake a few times at first. When installing something that begins with /tf in the directory address you want to isntall it where that directory is on your computer. As Frozen said, when you install the compressed files or what have you it merges with your existing folder.

Alright so Ive installed the textures but now they appear as black and purple checkered textures. Any help on how to solve this. As for my posts being confusing sorry about that, my mind was wandering when I wrote the inital post.

It's more the color of your post than the post itself

Anyway that means you either didn't put them in the right place, or you're missing cubemaps. I'm going to assume you aren't compiling yet and it's like that in Hammer, which means that you're missing probably the VTF file? Are you sure you extracted everything correctly?

What I tend to do is unzip files on my desktop, then copy the materials folder into my tf folder. I find sometimes WinRAR unarchives things in ways I don't expect and that way I can actually know what is going on and what is where.

Alright, Ill try that out. If it doesnt work, Ill post it here. And yes its in the uncomplied version, looking at the textures in the browser.

EDIT: Tried what you said, still didn't work. All that happened was the texture browser changed the thumbnail from the black and purple checkerboard to a tiny white square. However the applied texture is still the same. So any thoughts from here?
