The cookie timeout needs to go.

Right now it looks like the cookie that determines which posts are marked as still-unread is set up to expire in like five minutes, resetting every time I go to a new page. This is annoying. I'm tired of taking so long to write a post or read through a page of a thread that the cookie times out and now my red-paper icons are gone. Can we set it to use session cookies instead, so that it doesn't expire until I close the tab or leave the site?

That sounds like a thing on your end. My cookies here don't expire even after I've read things, which is about as annoying but I think you're worse off than I am.

Having this issue also. If a solution is found, one way or the other, would love to hear about it.

Huh. I could have sworn someone explicitly said there was a 15-minute timeout once. But it's definitely shorter than 15 minutes.

If it's any help, SPUF does this too, but no other forum I know of does.

Still doing it. Most annoying 'feature' ever. Is it really set to 15 mins? And if so, why in the world is it?

I'm literally just skipping reading some of the threads because I have no intention of scrolling through every new thread looking for new stuff since I last read. That's the whole point of being able to go to the last unread post.

I'll understand if this is the way it simply is due to software limitations, but if this functionality is someone's conscious choice, I would love to hear the reasoning behind it.

Agreed. Either eliminate it altogether, or make it much longer, like an hour or two. There have been times when somebody posted a link and I explored the link in another tab, and when I came back, the cookie had expired., which is so very frustrating.

I found this annoying but never really saw it as a problem, I'd search for new posts, then open all the ones I wanted to read in a new tab, close the search and read at my leisure.

OK, now what it does is not automatically mark threads as read when the session ends, from the looks of it.

Oh, and while I'm thinking about it, the style of the login entry thing is still the blueprint images from the old design.

The topics all being marked as read when I left always bothered me, but now that the forum functions like every other forum, I have no idea how to function on it.

(don't change it back, it'll just take a week or something lol)
