I have leaking lights

Hi, Based on our feed back I have started to convert all the lights over and add in some new ones. It's the new ones I'm having the issue with.

I have a covered bridge - with windows. Opposite these windows is the cliff (dispacement) face which runs along the length og the bridge.

Inside the bridge there are rafters from where the ligths hang down.

If you look the the bridge along the cliff from the outside the light is seeping (leaking) out below the floor of the bridge where it needs to be dark.

I tried putting a brush on the inside of the floor - with the block light texture but it's still leaking. I have tried to even extend the block brush out into the displacement to the nodraw wall to stop it.

Any reason why it leaks and do you have any suugestions on how to fix it?

From what I have read this is a lightmap issue. You need to split the lightmap so that the different parts get their correct lighting.

It basically amounts to cutting your brush so that the part you don't want light on is a separate brush. Depending on context, you may want to have 3 or more brushes rather than just two.

This is a good thread to reference but the image is gone. It was of a wall with a beam across it and light leaking above the beam.

Cool thanks for that and I am making some prgress I think on solving it based on the info you've provided. - I'm placing my answer here just in case someone else is looking for an answer :)

Imagine a rectangle intersecting a verticle wall - and along that wall runs a displacement. If I've understood it right, I think i've done i right by doing it this way or at least a vast improvement at least (The light source is on top of the rectangle)

I cut the displacement in 2 one on the top of the rectangle the other on the bottom ot it.
I cut the nodraw wall in 1/2 and placed one part on the of of the rectangle and the other 12 on the bottom.

It looks like I've stopped the leak will turn off some of the other lights to make 100% sure.

Update - yep thanks to everyone - everything has worked great!
