Hey all,

I just change my RAM stick configuration from:

Slot1-256mb
Slot2-512mb
Slot3-256mb
Slot4-512mb

Dual Channel 1500mb total

To:

Slot1-1024mb
Slot2-512mb
Slot3- EMPTY
Slot4-512mb

Now Single Channel but 2000mb total

Which one of these configurations is actually better for system (game) performance? I know that I have increased the total to 2000mb RAM but have sacrificed the Dual Channel mode, how should I keep it?

Thanks!

In my experience it is much better to have the additional RAM.

Does your 4th slot work completely? Some motherboards get iffy there, including mine, and it only reads one side of the stick.

Understand that all dual-channel does is allow information to be retroactively transferred on the 'going' and 'leaving' sides of the ram. This is awsome for large amounts of text, or speedy office stuff like trading. For gaming however, there is no major impact. You're definately better off with the second setup.
