How many drops in tf2 would you expect in 15 hours? For comparison.

In TF2 you have access to 9 totally different classes straight away though.
You have to work for quite a while to unlock a 3rd class in TA.

(Don't like how I said work, the game is very fun, heh)

Yeah, AngryAngus gave me a key too, and of the few hours I've played, I'm really enjoying it!

Thing is, I'd pay a full £30 for this as a retail game, but I refuse to spend £10 so that I can get triple XP for a week. That's just stupid imo :/

I'm StickZer0 in game. Also, the guide said the amount of time it takes to unlock a class is (Token cost / 50) * 25 in minutes. Which is just (Token Cost / 2). But seriously, that means 900 minutes (15 hours) to unlock that scouty class? Jeeeeeez D:
Those numbers are off, because I got my Pathfinder class way before 15 hours. Probably around 7-8 hours. The game is fun either way, though.

Also some content to this post: They were going to ship a patch that added a flat 50% speed inheritance in all directions to projectile weapons (instead of the current 20% + up to 30% depending on viewing angle vs traveling vector).
But there was a problem and they did a rollback... probably wont see that patch for a little while now that it's holidays.

I actually find this game pretty noob-friendly, after my first match I was getting in the top 3 consistently and I was having fun the whole time!!!!! It was easy to pick up for me and I really like the "no-friction" button.

I thought that was off too, so I gathered some data to calculate the tokens/minute gain.

So according to this the pathfinder (1800 tokens) take about 6 hours and 14 minutes to unlock.

I don't know why there is a difference between the sessions, my best guess is that is relies on how well you scored in the match. But it could also take into account: winning, losing, number of players, match length, your rank. I don't know.
But yeah, that is the average amount of tokens/minute I personally got after playing all those games.

It's currently in Closed beta. Meaning you need either an invite to play, or you can buy your way in (if this interests you, I'm sure google can help you find where and how much it costs).
Last I heard it will be released Q1 2012.

It's a good game and all, but do they have plans to do anything about the distribution/installation process?

It's not the worst thing to ever disgrace my computer, but I won't lie, I expected such a popular game to have a less clunky system.

So I had the flag and was all by myself at the cap fighting off like 6 enemies while my team did fucking nothing to help me I am mad.

Get used to it! For now.
Until they add custom server support, building any sort of community with decent game sense is hard. Right now with the quick play only, it's comparable to the level of play in TF2 quickplay.
Luckily that is their next "big thing" to implement, so hopefully soon-ish.

Usually, if your team is nowhere to be found, go hide with the flag in the generator room, in 75% cases, thats where they are hanging out. Or just keep running, avoid turning sharply and don't go down the same slope you used to get up, because there will be chasers, and they know how to deal with that tactic.

Also chasers have extreme tunnel-vision on the flag carrier. Try to steer them into your teammates (if possible), not away from them.

Goddamn it takes forever to unlock things... And there's no way to try-before-you-buy, so you might sink XP into a class or weapon that turns out to suck...
