Hey, TF2Mapites,

Want to help your fellow man reach a goal of $10,000 to fund a 13-episode film noir series that has been in pre-production hell for almost a year? Hopefully, you do, and you won't be a bunch of assholes like Facepunch was.

As I was saying, the project has been in pre-production for quire some time. Several iterations of scripts, characters came and went, actors lost and actors gained, and plenty of other things have happened in the last year. But now it's time to get things rolling before the majority of the cast leaves the state next fall.

What is this project, exactly?

When police officer John Amadeus Jones investigates a distress call, he finds himself caught up in a string of violent cop killings. Jones barely escapes with his life, and without his hands. Teaming up with his old partner, the two delve into the world of private investigation in search of the man behind it all.

Here's the trailer for it:

So how can you help? Head to the KICKSTARTER PAGE and pledge some money. Every little bit counts. And varying amounts get you rewards. And I will be eternally grateful.

50 days. $10,000. Can you help? Let's find out.

Sweet Christ. That is a bloated budget if I have ever seen one.

If I'm going to donate money, I want a spreadsheet of exactly where every dollar is going.

EDIT: if I donate like, $5K, can we afford to get Jones some prosthetics to go over his bandaged balled-up fists?

One of the plans with the budget is to improve the "no hands" part of it all. And the second episode calls for prosthetics in the very beginning, showing his hands fresh cut-off.

Other things the money would go for would be filming permits, police liaisons, location reservations, better equipment, police car rental, various effects, et cetera.

And the budget is for all 13 episodes.

So that's ~$769 per episode.

Let me go for the record that I am a fan of Noir style film, while this isn't the best one I've seen, it's not bad.

Now, the one thing that I'm questioning, is there are youtube channels that do stuff like this, but for basically nothing at all.

10k is a LOT of money, and you only provide 1 trailer, info about what is going on and not really a good detail on what exactly is needed/what the money will be used for. Why not set up tiers, ie. "If we have X amount, we will it for these 3 things, X amount more, we get these things" and so on (saying etc isn't good because people don't know what "etc" is, cameras? food? are you going to need to get drugs for one wacky scene?). Or say "we need this amount of money for a police liaison." Show people what is really needed. You never know, you might get someone who is a cop in the area, and he'll off his services for free.

I know that kickstarter refunds your money if the project doesn't make its goal, but people are hesitant when they see that much money, and not a lot of backing.

with that stated, best of luck.

Well, it's not a lot of backing yet because it just went up last night.

If nobody backs it because nobody else is, then nobody does anything and nothing happens.

Well, what will you do with the money that you raise, if you fail to meet the 10K mark?

The only other things I can really show are the scripts. And I'd like to keep those pretty close to heart.

I suppose I can make a making-of video for the trailer, and have some stuff from the actors in it about how they've been involved and what is all going on.

Well, what will you do with the money that you raise, if you fail to meet the 10K mark?

We don't get any money if we don't make our goal. That's what makes this so important.

I always thought that was a silly thing about these crowd funded projects, there should be some kind of lower % funding. Like we need 10k, but 5k would get us well on the way. It seems stupid to not fund it at all if it gets to 9.5k, even though for you guys that'd be enough.

Agreed it's stupid to lose all the funding if your down $1, but at least it stops people from taking say $500 of a $60k kickstart and using it for non 'kickstarting' purposes.

Anyway, best of luck Void. I'll be interesting to see the show once its made.

Aren't there government burseries for things like this? I know people here in Hampshire (UK) who make amatuer films and organise film festivals and some of them have been given quadrouple that amount with no strings by council run art foundations. Although most of that goes into hiring private venues, i know some places can charge absurd amounts like; 50k just for a 5-10 minute scene.

Good Luck if you can do 13 eps for the the cash you want.

I'm in pre-production on a movie - have a budget of 10 k (max) of my own cash (yep betting the house so-to-speak) but trying to do it for much less - everything is on a lo-no basis - budget is basically for lights/permits/Food for production/after party (everyone gets 2 drinks and food)
