Hi!

Today I started to run a server on my own with selfmade maps etc.

However, I really would like to implement a VSH (Versus Saxton Hale Arena) map. I searched it up but unfortunately I couldn't find useful info for a very beginner to start. Is there anyone who could give me a tutorial concerning this one? I'm really not familiar with the VSH thing, so I have no clue where to begin... :)

1/ Do I Have to download additional files and place them in the right directories?
2/ Do I Have to create new bat, txt or cfg files?
3/ Do I Have to add new entities/funcs in a existing map to add the Saxton Hale feature?
4/ ...

Thanks in advance!

If i understand correctly, VSH is a Source Mod and requires SM to be installed on your dedicated server and the relavent mod(s) installed into the relavent (SM) directories. I'm not sure what else to add since i'm not sure how much you know about this.

Not at all, last I checked any arena map can be played for the gamemode. Hell even my own Custom arena map Arakawa has been played for vsh in it's pure tf2 arena gametype mode. However people tend to customise arena maps to suit vsh such as my own, sometimes even before asking the mapper  . What they add or reove depends upon the map but it tends to be tweaks to clippings and death pits mainly.

Euhm, in fact that's quite rude...
I think I know that map :) Played a few eeks ago :)

I don't know but if you're interested in working together to develop maps you're welcome.

Do I have to place them in the folders I created when I started the server or do I have to place the downloaded files/maps in the directories of the game itself (SteamApps/Username/....)?

Something else that's handy when making a map is removing/keeping open spawn doors so people can't hide in them.

Supposedly there's a option in the latest version that lets you pick specific maps and the mod will hold the spawn doors open for you.

The problem is: When I play this on a server, Saxton Hale doesn't appear, only his voice appears in the game. Is that because we only played it with 2 players? (Does a Saxton Hale game only starts at a minimum of 3/4 people?)

Ive had issues with vsh and 2 players before, though hale would sometimes still spawn, but instantly die or something like that

You can try add a few bots (tf_bot_add) to see if thats the problem

VSH will work with 2 players, although I've always had some bugs in round 2 with people not being team switched properly and the default round 1 is set to a normal arena round.

Check your pure and whitelist settings as well as make sure all the files are downloading correctly to clients that connect.
