I have a block of water inside a box made of regular dev brushes. The top is open of course.

The problem is when I run the map and I look down into that box...not only do I not see water, but I cant even see the bottom of the box. Its like the bottom is open.

My block of water has no draw on all sides except the top of course, which has a water texture.

Anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong? or is source just being buggy?

Although it's unlikely at this stage, another cause of this is if you have no lights in your map.

A leak, or running no vvis will cause this issue.

Well I can say that i am running VVIS and that I have light in the map.

I have no idea about the leak thing...

Perhaps your only used nodraw's'?
Please let me explain:

1/ You need a skybox;
2/ You need a basic geography made with simple brushes (nodraws);
3/ You need displacements (or brushes) upon your nodraws that cover the entire area;
4/ Place your brush of water (5 sides are nodraws and the top side is water ofcourse) + do not exagerate with the size of the waterbrush, if it's to large just clip your brush into different pieces;
5/ Place a cubemap just above the waterbrush and pick the water-side;
6/ Place a waterlod control;

These steps are very basic explained because I think you just skipped a step, I suggest you'll have to watch a good walkthrough (again):

If you didn't find any solution place a download link of your map and we'll take a look.

Greets.

If the complile log reports "*** Leaked ***", then... yeah.

Use the pointfile to find a leak.
