With the dynamic element contest going on, we're bound to see some really weird stuff. So why not record that really really weird stuff that probably won't make it into a map, but will still make us chuckle?

So, use this thread to post your wacky idea's that you won't use...

I know for me so far I've heard the idea of using the cart as a battering ram or having to sacrifice 4 players to create a bridge...

BLU team has to have people stand in a certain area or on certain points for the door to this tunnel to open, so BLU and RED can both only take people into the tunnel a few at a time.

I tried to catapult my cart over a gap. This wasn't really dynamic so I cut it. Also I wanted to do a 360° turnable, just think about it...

Killing Floor had a similar mechanic in the ARG promotional map kf_aperture, where you had to stand on buttons to open doors and get free armour/weapons/ammo. The trouble was only a fraction of people actually used them because half the people never even thought to stand on the buttons/figured out they opened near by doors to secret rooms; or were too selfish, desiring the free gear for themselves, to open the doors for anyone else.

I think it would be a pretty cool effect to have the cart (perhaps running through a factory of some sort) get taken apart and reassembled (maybe with different parts?) down an assembly line, which stalls the team out in that area for a bit, like the turntable delay on barnblitz.

Just the visual of having the bomb cart ripped apart and put back together seems like it could be really cool if done by a good enough modeler/ animator.

That is awesome.

A section where the cart is grabbed by a crane and pulled out over a gap, and BLU must stand on top of it to push. It's a rollback zone too, so if everyone on the cart dies, it pulls back to the start and BLU has to try again. I was actually considering something similar to this, but then I realized just how unbalanced it would be. Probably the only way to get through would be a heavy in front to absorb damage and a scout in the back to cap quickly.

Stage 3 of pl_cranetop does something sort of like this and it is really cool. Unfortunately Cranetop started mysteriously crashing servers along with koth_garbageday and some other maps I forgot about.

I'm not sure what the point would be of having it disassembled, but BLU starting out with an empty cart and having to stop to have the bomb and dispenser added in — possibly having to stand on a "dead man's switch" (aka control point) to keep the machinery working — sounds like a cool idea.

i think the idea of the cart moving by itself while teams just fight it out is a good one i.e. doom's crane, the taking apart thing someone mentioned above me

i also like doom's track repair thing with the intels.

also there should be an event where the payload has to break down a wall via, pushing at full speed twice or 1x speed 3 times or something. the cart will move backwards upon hitting the wall.

Eh I guess I'll share mine.

My idea's to have a normal ol' pl_ map with turntables and such, but at some points the cart will reach a fork in the tracks where it'll decide which direction to go. For example, for the first few tracks it'll be a straight path, but suddenly the tracks splits off into a tunnel and a cliff. The cart, when it reaches this fork, will randomly decide which way to go. At the end of the tunnel and the cliff the cart tracks will reunite into a capture point. One path won't stray too far from the other path and I think balancing shouldn't be to hard in terms of travel time. It's all a matter of using relatively the same amount of pieces.

The general idea is to have multiple small forks before every other control point or so. I'm going to have so much fun with the final capture point. Haha.

Let's say the cart is one color at the start but is torn apart to have the outside color changed (because that's way easier than painting it!) so it can pass through some sort of "team scanner" device on it's way to blow up whatever Red is protecting? You could even leave panels the older team color or something to show that it had been changed, poorly.

Doubt it's possible, but the kicker for that idea would be that for Red the cart color would be changed at the final part of the animation, and for Blu a massive paper mask with a Red cart would be placed on the front of the Blu bomb. The rest of the animation just pulls it apart and puts it back together to "complete the illusion."

The cart gets stuck on a treadmill, and must gain enough speed to overload the treadmill and make it blow up. (Because the treadmill is hooked up to more bombs.)

It'd be cool to have a control point that unlocks an alternate payload route when capped. Not sure if it'd be allowed under the contest rules, or even whether it would play well but I like the idea.

Admittedly that's not very ridiculous though...

I think that is allowed. What isn't is a completely new gametype, a la Waste or Dogbread. As long as 1 team pushes a cart somehow and the other defends (or both teams push 1+ cart each), then it is allowed under the rules.

OH snap Prestige I am going to 'borrow' that wall idea and modify it a bit!
