I've had both my hands surgically removed and replaced with what seem to be the upper torso's of penguins.

Although in a serious sense I doubt anyone even slightly missed me haha, I haven't had internet in 6 months. The sad part though is that my TF2 Hammer doesn't work offline! I haven't been able to map. You might be asking yourself "But Vincent, how are you talking to us now!". Well the Mifi hot spot thingy my mother has doesn't work when tethering straight to my computer, so this is on my mothers laptop.

So I guess I have a question. Anyone got a way to map in offline mode when it won't allow you too? Somehow tethering internet to my computer won't work, so the solution has to be purely offline. If anyone comes up with anything I'd greatly appreciate it! (And if the solution requires it to be online for even a minute, I'll figure out someway how.. just a suggestion is greatly appreciated!)

You don't need an internet connection to use the SDK or steam in offline mode. So long as you have it installed during the period you have the internet.

When your computer does not detect the internet it'll ask you if you want to go in offline mode instead, or quit. Choose offline mode and the tools should still be accessible. Sometimes there are hiccups with steam and networks but 99% of the time it should work like that.

Yeah, for the most part if you have TF2 and the SDK installed and have played TF2 at least once, you SHOULD be able to use the SDK offline. Don't know if you need to be online when you load TF2 that one time; I assume not.
After that, you don't need to be tethered and can just load the SDK up whenever.
I feel your pain, bro. I've been forced to tether to my cell phone for the last week. D:

Yeah I thought so too, because it's worked before for me. For some odd reason the moment I completely lost internet I thought "Well at least I can still map!"- I loaded up my Source SDK (With Half-Life 2, TF2, Counter-Strike, etc) and it told me "This game is not available while steam is in offline mode". Funny enough my L4D2 SDK mostly works, I'm missing textures and models for some reason, same with my portal 2 SDK.

I've tried restarting steam, etc. I'm thinking if I tether the internet I can just re-install my SDK?

Connect to steam on your PC
Run the SDK and Hammer once
Close them
Go straight to offline mode on Steam
Leave it like that and boot into offline mode each time

That's how I usuall work it, so yeah, you'll have to tether to the Internet somehow and do that. If it dosn't work, Try deleting your client blob?

Yea, that's when steam is most funny, if you had a connection to the internet and then your network goes down or something, steam hangs and punches itself in the face.

The steam cloud thing sounds about right. Let's adventure to convince my mother to let me tether her infinite iphone internet for five minutes!

Just figured I'd let everyone know. I fixed it.

My mother decided to finally get internet. Huzzah! Kinda funny how these things work out.
Feels weird to have internet on my desktop after six months.

Uhhh, minor drama, 72 hr contest, assignment frenzy...

...yyler is now civil partners with Languid. Yyler moved to scotland, and they are adopting a girl from somewhere in mid Europe... We had a wonderful ceremony in a map that was inside a church. It was quite beautiful. For gifts we gave hats and threw sandwhiches at them...
