The new release is close. And this is of course a real release that I'll spread around to websites and stuff.

I'm also doing some (light) re-themeing of the red side of the map, to make it just a bit more interesting:

ctf_landfall release candidate 1 released!

I know I only released one beta. But after all the test versions, I realized I had basically done all the testing that more beta versions would have accomplished. And now that the map is in a really solid state... here's rc! Get excited!

Despite the incremental changes in each test build, it's actually a big jump up from beta 1. It's so much better I almost feel embarrassed about b1.

On top of that, the optimization is much better now. I spent a while changing around how the skybox and areaportals cull the big sections of the map, and came up with a superior solution.

Layout changes:
-Changed the sides of mid. They're now higher up and have a porch area to give a better vantage point on the upper catwalk.
-Added a small new room in mid to safely get from the lower saw-room door to the porch on the side of mid.
-Added a new little alcove where the outside path meets mid.
-Added a new room on the upper levels of each side by mid.
-Changed the sawroom going into the bases. It's now got more space outdoors, to make that path more fun, but also more dangerous for the attackers.
-Changed the layout of the intel deck slightly
-You can now jump onto the shack along the outside path.
-Better FPS
-Various detail improvements and additions
Gameplay changes:
-Respawn rate raised slightly
-flag return time raised to 35 seconds

i just wanted to say. whenever i download a map from time to time to wander through it, most of the time it gets deleted the other day. but your map has this unique theme going on that i really appreciate. i just love how you've build the surrounding with the trees and slight hills. i really really dig what you have created themewise in this map :)

Here's footage of your map from June 22nd.

TF2: ctf_landfall_rc

The differences between BLU's side and RED's are subtle...maybe too subtle. Also, I see blue barrels on RED's side. What I'm concerned is that there are not enough differences between the two bases to avoid confusing the two.

Agreed. Now that Barnblitz has provided us with a blue wooden texture, it may be time to put it to good use.

Using some blue wood textures to differentiate the sides a bit would be fine, but it's not a big enough deal to warrant a new release of the map. I don't recall players having much issue telling what side they were on.

I think people idea of updating are not over there being real identity issues of which side I am but just to improve the map, think there is a far few people including me that really enjoy this map and the want it to be it's best (and get Valve to buy you out), now custom intels work agian (I think?) might be a nice idea to make a nice one for this, idk...

Congrats on going official!

One small issue to note, there's a missing clip brush over a set of stairs leading to mid on RED's side.

EDIT: It's also possible to build inside of one of the spawns, which means spies can get inside.

I like the map, but the only problem is that instead of placing the intelligence in a specially created room (Similar to 2fort), they place it near spawn. This makes the Intelligence particularly hard to get, when an entire team can come at you from respawn. In this sense, the map feels like a destined koth or cp map, despite the fact it was specifically designed for ctf.
