This is my map. It is esentially 2 towers based in the middle of a desert basin, poised against each other in either CTF, CP, or ARENA. The download link at the top of this page is the download link for the CTF version of Desert Base. You can download the CP version of my map here: CP_Desert_Base
You can download the ARENA version of this map here: ARENA_Desert_Base
You can download the .bz2 version of my map here.
CTF: CTF_Desert_Base.bz2
CP: CP_Desert_Base.bz2
ARENA: ARENA_Desert_Base.bz2
In order to include menu thumbnails and photos in your own server, you will have to follow these steps in order to include menu thumbnails/photos for your server:
1. Download the files necassary to add menu photos and menu thumbnails here: Menu_Thumbs_and_Photos.zip
2. Here are 2 links to help you organize the files within the .zip file and put them in the right directory for the menu thumbnails/photos to work: Menu Thumbnails Tutorial
Menu Photos Tutorial
3. Start your server and enjoy.
Keep in mind, these tutorials may not apply to TF2 dedicated servers.
Sorry about the Thread Prefix. It may be misleading, though it was needed so I can post this thread.
Any feedback is appreciated!

I wouldn't really call this release candidate, it is extremly blocky, it has very unfitting textures and lighting that doesn't really fit together with the skybox.

Also use pakrat to pack textures to your bsp, nobody wants to play a map that tells you to install assets yourself.

AFAIK I don't think packing menu textures into the map works in this case.

Thanks for the info. From what I read, it sounds like packing the menu photos and the menu thumbnails into the .bsp file will not work for TF2 clients. I will include packed bsp files with the menu thumbs/photos already included, although. And yes, it is a bit unfinished and shouldn't have been labled as the release canidate.

You're right and Wilson is wrong. You can't pack those.

You can only pack the loading screen photos.

Newly updated with new skyboxes, lighting, and new detail props. By the way, the cliffs are suppose to be fairly chunky to allow you to utilize them if you want to. Any feedback and suggestions are apreciated.

No wait, this is way better. Cut the map in half, and reposition it so the two cliffs are back to back. Then add tunnels through the walls at different heights, and into the now back-to-back buildings. Easier to optimize, more fun, solves a lot of your scale issues. Abandon all the gametypes except CTF and put the flags at the heighest point. Make it workkkkkkkk

Ah, that makes sense. I hadn't thought of that MangyCarface. Thanks. Though, I will still keep all versions of the map because it doesnt take much effort to make the map into seperate versions. What I will end up doing is adding tunnels through out the existing cliffs for easier access, adding crates at the bottom of the towers to create cover, and re-scaling the map to make it more realistic.
