burning_torch - where'd it come from?

I did some digging and discovered that burning_torch was around for over a year before it appeared in the Medieval Update, and that some people incorrectly thought it was used in Egypt. So... where did it come from? Was it just an effect that came with the game but was never used for anything? To this day, I don't think any official maps use it.

Similar question about candle_light1, which didn't seem to get any use until Mann Manor even though there was a candle_light2 in Harvest Event.

Without knowing what either looked like, I checked props_2fort/lantern001.mdl with N++ and it is indeed the use for candle_light1. I suspect the torch may be similarly used through another piece of content rather than by itself, though I cannot think of anything offhand.

Egypt is an env_smokestack colored orangish, and the Huntsman is flaming_arrow.

EDIT: Oh, and I had no idea you could embed a particle emitter into a model; that's neat.

I used the burning_torch in my egypt map when I first started making it. Reason for this was because I found it quite silly that there was smoke coming from a torch holder but no fire at all yet people received burn damage from it. If you want you can load my map up and decompile it to see how it looks when setup properly.

The torch is a particle shooter entity - I used them recently all over my map.

I'm currently at work - but if you need to I can post the set up when I get home - might be later (going to the movies!) though.

By the way, if anyone was wondering why I was asking about this, I was in the process of rewriting the "Creating Fire in TF2" article on the dev wiki. This is the new version. I ended up saying that the entity has never been officially used by Valve. If anyone can figure out that I'm wrong, they're welcome to edit the article.
