Orphaned User Visgroup?

Hammer doesn't recognize the user visgroups I am making. Every time I reopen my map with my user visgroup turned off, it says my hidden user visgroup is "orphaned" then puts it into a new visgroup called "_orphaned hidden".

If I save and close the map with the user visgroup left on, as soon as I open it again the user visgroup has been erased (though the content of the user visgroup remains).

Is anyone else getting this problem?

I'm having this problem too. Apparently it's extremely rare because your post is the only thing coming up in Google.

My problem is that I went through and deleted all of my visgroups so I could re-organize them. Some things disappeared and I couldn't get to them. And my new Skybox visgroup had a gray check mark when I turned it on as if something was hidden though the whole thing was there.

Today when I re-started, it formed the orphan hidden visgroup and stuck the things I couldn't get to yesterday into that and my skybox visgroup is working properly.

I think Hammer was just acting buggy. Hopefully the file isn't corrupted.

No, I didn't use DispGen. I can't remember exactly what I did, but I think what caused it for me was erasing my visgroups wholesale. Some stuff that was in a visgroup didn't become unhidden when their visgroup was erased. I knew I didn't delete it, so it all just disappeared.

It was stuff I was going to throw away anyway so I really wasn't paying attention to it much. So when it came back in the orphan visgroup I deleted the stuff and the visgroup. But then I thought, "Well, that's weird. What if it's part of a bigger problem?" So I googled for it. Hammer hasn't done anything weird again yet, so I have my fingers crossed.

I think my problem is generally solved, but I figured I'd reply in case anyone else was looking for info on this. Also, in case someone knew it was a major problem that I shouldn't ignore.
