The barn cap point is on of the most generic ideas in TF2 mapping. Is this barn too generic? what can I do to make it feel original?

Hard to tell from one image but you seem to have only one door + huge box around the cap and no windows. The TF2 barns usually are near cliffs so they can use supports and thus can have height variation. You could also add new routes for rocket jumpers like in Gravelpit. Also don't forget sentry positions. Try to think how every class could attack/defend your barn and is someone overpowered/useless.

barns are generic by nature but i'm guessing that you're asking if it's interesting, to which i would have to say no, it is not. There is no detail. Add some windows, some hay, a pitch fork maybe.

It's not generic, it's just 3 brushes ft 3 models.

Try do do that, less monotexturing, with roofs and sexy models like doors and windows :]

It's pretty small for a cap point, but that's beside the point;

The most straightforward way to make a map interesting is with detail or gameplay. Give it height variation, interesting exits/entrances, put the point in an unusual place while still making it fun to capture.

Maps like Mann Manor and Zinkenite draw attention because of their attention to a custom or unusual theme, but I personally still find prarie/industrial theme areas interesting as long as they are well built and have balanced gameplay.

Experimenting and drawing from other maps for inspiration are the best way to understand what your point/map needs.

Thanks for all your suggestions, I changed things up a little.

I took away the barn element to alow for more, well, anything. Since the barn was far too small.

I also extended out this pathway to allow for more access.

Still to do: Add props, ammo and health.

Also, When this map is done, how do I get it tested?

Either host a game yourself or wait until theres a gameday (they're usually once a week but there hasnt been one in almost 10 days) and post it in the thread on the forums to get it tested on the tf2maps servers.

Cool, thanks!
