Hi - not sure where to put this.

My goldheist_canyon_b1 map is bascially done - just finising testing one bug with a red spawn point before uploading it into the maps section and then I welcome your comments/criticisims on about it. :)

I was looking at the gameday page and it says:

"BZ2 compressed files are greatly appreciated to save time for the host."

I've seen these file extensions a couple of times but have absolutely no idea what BZ2 is or how it works - or how it saves time for the host.

Is a regular zip file fine for the upload (in the maps section) in or do you always prefer the BZ2 ones?

Thanks

In the download section, any filetype is fine - the users are downloading it to their server's download folder (although .bsp or .bz2 makes things easier).

When uploading maps to the server, use .bz2 - it uploads faster and the server doesn't have to compress the .bsp (this is where Snark comes in and talks about all that fancy compression stuff he found out a while ago).

To .bz2 a map, download 7zip. Then, simply right-click the .bsp file and 'Add [it] to Archive' and select BZip2.

And don't try to remove the .bsp from the resulting filename! For some weird reason, 7zip requires one-file archives to have the full filename and extension in the filename of the archive; if you change it, the file inside changes accordingly.
