Hey Guys,

You up for some intense drug-fueled "Team Fortress 2"-styled animation that will give you one hell of an adrenaline shot?

If so, check out Mac 'n' Cheese.

More info:
Mac 'n' Cheese is an animated short directed and created by four students at the Utrecht School of Arts in the Netherlands. This roughly two minute animation took about five months to make, and about a bajillion peanut butter sandwiches.

Synopsis: When you find yourself running scared and running out of energy, there's only a few options left to outrun your opponent through the southern desert. Stopping at nothing, watch these two guys wear each other out and rip through boundaries hitherto unbroken. Enjoy the ride!

Hahaha, that was great, the ending was so excellent I was not expecting it at all ;)

I still don't understand - how is this (and Meet Buck) made? Is it 3D models overlaid onto painted backgrounds or what? It all blends so well

Excellent, excellent work, I hope having done this propels you into whatever industry you want to be entering :p

StickZer0 thanks for the reply!

If I'm correct a lot was drawn with Meet Buck. Nevertheless in our short Mac 'n' Cheese everything you see is 3D, except for the smoke, dust and sparks effects. Of course a lot came from the texturing, but most of the style came from the shader and how we composited it.

We hope to release a making of somewhere in the future, we'll probably post it up on vimeo and/or youtube. Best is to keep an eye out on our facebook page and you'll get notified! :)

Hope this answers some of your questions!

Roy Nieterau

Wow. Between this, "Meet Buck", and that other one I forget the name of with the macguffin that turns people into fish, it looks like the painted, 2½-D style is really popular with animation students these days.
