Alright, so I'm not going be like "I NEED THIS," but more of a "If you're bored and want to try this, here" type thing. I've been thinking about how I wish to start detailing cp_frozen a big, and I've decided on a snowy Old mining/lumberyard feel. An odd combination, but I think I can make it work. It makes sense when you think about it, people discover gold, they need to build up a town around the mine, thus the lumber yard.

I'm trying to aim for an old worn down, but still in use, feel. Architecture maybe like this:
4101102187_b58474755e.jpg

With other references from Sawmill, Lumberyard, Upward and hightower.

As we all know, I'm horrible at everything I do, so I'm tossing this list here of things I'd like to have in my map. These won't be map specific things though, they are more or less to help promote this new theme I'm cooking up. Again, this isn't a list of demands or needs, but more/less a wishlist of things that I'd like to see in my map, and also in the community.

Something I would also like to do with my map is provide references to other maps, for example I have a "Visit wonderful Mt. St. Hella" Travel poster, clearly referencing yyler's map cp_hella. If you have suggestions for other maps, I'm open to suggestions, but do not want to go overboard. I already have 3 (includes Hella poster).

cp_frozen custom asset wishlist

Textures:
Worn down blu wood (like bblitz, but blue, or the red grain silo facade wood)*** I know this isn't typical of actual blu architecture or materials, but I would like some for assorted accenting and other things. If anything I havea back up plan. The Metal is a bit more important.
Worn metal
Ground to snow transition metal/wood (like metal/wall01ba and b. The bottom is dirt, I'm thinking snow replacement)
Snow blends of pl_barnblitz/metalroof_panels001 , Woods/metal/wall028b_blu

*Models:
Snowman
***DONE: See Downloads Section. Snow shovel. Like this or this. Little more worn, and possibly team colored?
Plow? (maybe addon to existing truck?)
Wood chipper? Reference picture
Assorted Fences (may do brushwork w/ propper. Style similiar to Barnblitz)
Overlays:
**Snowy Tire Tracks, the current ones don't blend well with snow.
Glacier Mining/Logging Signs #Based off Binski Logging/Paper signs
Assorted Mining/Logging Safety Signs #Typical "Danger!" signs (I do have a couple of ravidges)
-Like "May be Icy" , Caution: Falling Icicles. Things like that
Canyonfodder Gravel co. (?) #Painted Sign
DONE **Coldfront Winterware (?) #Like Crackypop posters
**Turbines 1-5 Signs #Noclue how these should work
**Snow Patches
Particles:
**Better snowstorm (modded coldfront. to be shorter/smaller)

*For models, Simple, not need a lot of detail ones, I can probably texture.
**I will be doing some of these myself, and these are what I will be -teaching- myself to do. But if a higher quality one shows up, naturally I will use it.

I will probably adjust this list as I think of more things, but the vision of how I want the map to look is pretty much in my head. I will get sketches asap of what i'm thinking asap. Just as soon as I get them to look nice and have a scanner nearby.

Also, if anyone does take up any of these because your bored, I'd urge you to release your assets publicly, so everyone can use them. (I'm not greedy :p)... But post here so I see it!

I can make the shovel mesh and UV+AO it for you. I'll leave texturing to you/someone else, that okay?

EDIT: Shovel done, shipped the files and textures to frozen already.

JFYI wind turbines tend to only be used in very flat areas, there's far too much turbulence and unpredictability in the air velocity to run them around hills, same goes for buildings.

Also I think yours are too small+spin too fast

Also, never ever let anyone call them windmills.

1) It's TF2, so it works if I say so dammit.
2) Blame seba. Size wise I think they are fine though.
3) I try not to.

YM made a snowman for stark, ask him if you can use it for your map. I'm not entirely sure he will because he stopped working on stark and tends to not release content for projects he hasn't finished, but you wont know until you try.

One question i do have though and i'm not sure whether it's entirely relavent, but you do realise these mining towns tend to be empty during winter because discontinuous perma-frost makes it impossible to mine during winter seasons.

I think i've already asked YM and got a "No".

And yes, thats a good point with the mining town. I never said it was an active mine at the time of the map, but a reason for it should be made.

The story for the map is that red has kinda "taken over" this area as a way to hide their machine, so it'll be abandoned anyways.

I know you're an oldbie and all, but I think it bears repeating why there is no BLU-themed wood currently: RED is associated with rural themes — wood and brick — while BLU is industrial — metal and concrete. Even maps with a predominantly rural or industrial theme overall preserve this basic contrast, either with lots of brick for RED or cheap corrugated metals for BLU.

If this were a symmetrical map, I could maybe see BLU wooden buildings being justified given the theme. (See: Sawmill.) But this is RED territory that BLU is encroaching on. All you really need to build for them is the starting spawn area. Most of the official asymmetrical maps start BLU out inside a cave of some sort, in fact, which both avoids the issue of making BLU-themed structures in rural/desert maps and suggests that BLU has set up shop in secret and launched a surprise attack on RED, which makes more sense narrative-wise.

Doesn't the badwater basin kinda break this idea. Whole map has reddish concrete and metal textures all around it.

Maybe blu wanted to research what is so awesome in those red wood + brick buildings and builded their own base.

No steve, you're right, and I should've put down that it wasn't going to be used a lot, the main blu spawn building in stage 1was mainly going to use it as an accent, I'm more worried about snow transition metals than the wood.

I know red is all about woods and weird geometry whilst blu likes their metal, concrete and relatively square shapes, but this doesn't mean they use wood now and then.

I will adjust that part of list to reflect what I need it for.

Your snowman will probably be a lot better than mine, which is only really suited to the out-of-bounds area.

I also have made a blu wood texture, although by blue I mean I took an existing wood texture and gave it a blue tint.

While it may not be blatantly obvious, it does have a cooler appearance.

:O ...

Within the next few hours I will be updating my coldfront warmware signs ( been meaning too for about a week)

I'd also like to say that the map is going to be taking longer than I hoped. I will be breaking up each stage and working on them individually. I'll also be in school, which will slow this down a bit more. But do not worry, I plan on finishing the map. It'll be a while, but it will be well worth the wait.

I could try to make you an igloo model - if you think it would fit.

Would to want a small one or one that a player could go into or both?

Hi everybody!

I'll be starting to detail stage 1 this weekend. And wanted to bump this just to show that the project isn't dead, it just had a very long nap.

I've already gotten some snowy treads from DaBeatz, and I think Asshat made me some blue wood I can use. I'll try and use as much of the content as possible, where applicable.

Thanks to all that have contributed so far, I didn't expect anyone to really do anything for this at all, so a big thanks to everyone.
