Yes I'm in!

On another Note: Why the heck is the track in notepad?

Edit: Nevermind, you just got to save it and put it into hammer

Made some headway for the first point. Was using the manly version, then decided to pussy out and modify my track to match the sissy new version, just in case.
I also set up my 4 points and laid down the path_tracks. Here's how long it takes (about) for travel between each point, assuming you use the same general locations along the track as I.
Spawn to CP 1: 1:01
CP 1 to CP 2: 0:47
CP 2 to CP 3: 1:32
CP 3 to End: 1:10
Total: 4:35
(Note: For the rollback zones, I change the speed of the cart to .75 on the tiny slope up, then it goes down to .5 on the 45 degree slope. I do a similar thing for the large rollforward zones, marking the tiny slope as 1.25 and the large slope as 1.5, although the smaller ones near the end aren't marked as rollforward and have a flat 1.25 speed increase.)
Compare these times to:

Why on earth would you post this in the middle of Ravidges assignments?

I seriously thought you'd spend a few more weeks liasing with people over an appropriate track and when would be good. Then suddenly you come out now with a track no one is happy with in the middle of a really popular unofficial contest session.

I was so impressed with this contest concept i was even gonna talk to DrP about perhaps making it an official contest. I was so looking forward to this. Oh well.

another thing - the track has collisions and shadows. didnt check before compiling, got console full of redtext :D

That was totally intentional. It's a mapper's responsibility to find errors and fix them. ...Yep. And I'd rather you changed it. You've got 59 days.

Grazr, if you had wanted to make it an official contest, you should have told me. I started it now because the idea was complete - I was planning on starting it a month ago. And people don't hate the track that much. Assignment Frenzy should take priority over this for everybody - I'm extending the length of the contest so that people can work on Assignments, as I said in the OP. If you want to make it an official contest, do it. Or somebody else could run an official version - maybe multistage, plr, or something - next year. You should have told me that you were thinking about it - I wouldn't have announced it :/

Grazr, if you read the original post, you would've seen that he knows that he's putting this in the middle of the assignment frenzy, and says that the assignment frenzy should get priority over this one, he will adjust the time limit when applicable.

This is a mapping contest. It includes detailing. If the majority of participants are having an issue with the time limit, there may be an extension. Related: If Ravidge's Assignment Frenzy produces an assignment that is very extensive, it takes priority over BATT. There will be an extension to allow participants the time to work on Assignments. Ravidge is a cool guy.

He and Ravidge had been talking about this before hand, and thus, they both know what is going on.

As for the track, people are ALWAYS going to be unhappy about it, there would've been no way around it for this contest. LE posted pictures of the track multiple times in chat and thus, there is no excuse to complain.

Because people are always available in the chat. Surely the forums would have been a better idea when people can browse information at their leisure?

Can we still modify the tracks height? Or are we stuck with this setup.

According to the rules, you can't modify the track.

And also, The track itself was supposed to be a surprise, so showing it to everyone on the forums first would've been silly.

That's not what i meant, we discussed this in the other thread. Little was gonna discuss nuances in the track and people would give suggestions about particular segment possibilities. Next thing i know he's released the contest :/

You may not modify the track height.

And I didn't show the entire forums because I was essentially labeling the chat as an awesome place where you see the track before others as you help develop it.

The track is not aligned to the 64x64 grid, and I'm not allowed to fix that? D:

I don't think I can do this D:

I noticed this too. That and the fact that there are rediculous lines of sight and no space to fit BLU and RED spawns which are forced to be right next to each other.

Grazr, are you sure you have updated version of the track?

You would've had to drop the grid size down to line up the tracks properly anyways.

Look, you don't like the track? Don't participate, make your own non-contest pl map.

I see no reason for this discussion to continue. Don't like the track? Oh well. Don't like the contest? Don't participate. Don't think its being ran well? Sorry. This is the first contest of its kind. See how it pans out and ends up, and run another one next year.

Also grazr, its "Ridiculous"... you are not trying to dispell a boggart.

I downloaded the version that's on the OP, i downloaded it moments before my last post.

@Frozen:

There is always a reason to discuss why things are done certain ways. If nobody complains no one will realise if and when something is wrong. I'm not the only one who's complained about the track, if there are more complaints than acceptance, are you still gonna tell me that nothing is wrong? That we should just ignore the masses in a system that runs on negotiation and compromise? Why are you constantly trying to jump in and stop debates? No one is being unruly; and asking "why" is healthy.

Discussing why the contest is being done in a certain why is fine. Discussing why the track is horrible is not. The complaints I am hearing are not complaints, they are people whining. This is a contest thats supposed to be challenging. If you were expecting the track to be easy, then I'm sorry.

I'm not trying to jump in and end the argument and potential flame war. I AM ending it.

You have enough space for a decent spawn for both RED and BLU. Just don't put them directly infront of the start and end. You can have them be on the sides. And even then...

Also, I have told people that if they hate working on that low grid for the track, they may alter it slightly, but that's a unit or two change. I don't understand why so many are mad about the fact that it's on a low grid - tracks are annoying to line up, and would not line up on anything bigger than 8. I'm a perfectionist so I went deep down and lined everything up as best it could be. Place your path_tracks and be flustered, but then move up to an 8 grid or whatever you need to block it out. I've said this far too much. Suck it up or don't participate. I don't mean to be harsh but really.

Finally, related to the last paragraph, you might find the last section of the track a little wacky. Somewhere Hammer fucked up and added a decimal when I was rotating things. Generally all hills are 15 degrees or 30 degrees. Near the end there's a couple 15 +/- 0.XX angled tracks. Feel free to fix it to the proper degree or deal with it. It's such a tiny thing that it won't bother everybody but if you see it and can't work with it, fix it. That doesn't mean change the whole thing. You stick to the 15 degrees.

The debate isn't about the easy-ness of the track, it's the appropriateness of the track.

There was no arguement and there is no flame war. You're de-railing the discussion about the level design and turning it into an administration issue. "HERE is the contest", "DO it or DON'T". You're hurting the potential of the contest for the sake of being stubborn. You don't have to be that way, no one is being hurt or offended here and there's no need to throw your weight around.

If a sufficient amount of people believe the track should be revised i really don't see why that shouldn't be a possibility. The rules don't have to change and the track will still be a surprise to people so i don't see the harm.
