Heh, that sucks man.

I've read in a few places that if you ever want to join a mod team, you should hang around with the people, talk to them and understand what they're like and whether they're worth joining for about two weeks before you actually join up, otherwise you could just end up in a situation like this.

Just keep looking around, you'll find something good to work on eventually :)

Few questions?

Where can we see your work, i tried my best to find your portfolio or any modding or model related thing, but all i could find was post on Obsidian Conflict forums how to get models work (and if this is really you, why would professional, like you claim, need help with that or follow tutorials for that matter)

Why did you post it here, this is tf2 mapping site, those big modding team leaders are not here most of the time

Why you claim with big words that you are professional and only work for money now, yet you have no any sing of work done, or anything that would make someone go "I hire this guy" this feels more like lousy attempt to get money than anything else

Also, i don't know full story with whole model thing you mentioned, but i find it bit odd a professional would go that mad for being asked somewhat base the desing on something, it happens all the time on all fields of this type of work. Did you know that big building on pl_barnblitz is based on this building? http://i.imgur.com/PxX9d.png or many of the Doctor Who Galifrey songs are based on star wars music. (I am such a nerd)

Yeah, i am the guy who fears worst of everyone, no worries.

never... said that I was a professional. I have done modding for a long while, mostly with ripped models nevertheless... but I do have some skill in 3d modeling. mot of which i lost on the last laptop....

also, to the second paragraph, why does that matter to you? just getting frustrations out of my system.

Just one more question, just one.

Why are you complaining about people sending you images to base things off when you yourself admit you rip models off from somewhere else and then ask to be paid as a modeler, then rant how others are wannabe devs and unprofessional?

That is pretty damn hypocritical.

I should have mentioned, i wasn't planning to get paid off ripped models, that would end up with me being sued...

not only that, you missed the point there... differing that I never asked someone to make a model by giving them just an image, and said "now base a model off of that"

not only that, i wasnt generalising all wannabe devs. but i do admit being added to some teams that never got off of the ground. that being by bad administration or by layabout developers in the teams.

Certain people on my contacts list can tell you that I am happy to give out ripped models free of pay, for their own use.

I think you missed point of my post.

What is the point come here making this whole rant on how someone is making you steal someone else desing and how people are unprofessional etc. when you yourself are doing the exact same thing. Why do you expect any sane mod leader would hire a person that says "When i am not working on mods i steal other people's work" and now you even admit that you hand out that stolen content foward for people to use it as their own.

This is amazingly hypocritical, stupid and pointless.

(This is also my last post to this thread, i think it is pointless to go onwards from here)

I know you won't post again, but i feel you may read this again. I will break down your post.

"What is the point come here making this whole rant on how someone is making you steal someone else desing" well, I did say they wanted me to base it off of that. yes i did say plagerism in my first post, but i do take that back. "and how people are unprofessional etc" Who else did I say was unprofessional? say a name. I said wannabes, but that doesn't necessarily mean all of the type. "when you yourself are doing the exact same thing" that is... let me guess, ripping models. not all the time, and no, not the exact same thing. what am I doing that is the same?

"Why do you expect any sane mod leader would hire a person that says "When i am not working on mods i steal other people's work" "
uugh, sane has nothing to do with my posts. You are making a big deal on me ripping models for work that I and close friends use only. not only that, i give proper credentials to the originators. if i have taken from a game, i definately say I did not create this model and say who made it, which game, and if i can, what team.

"This is amazingly hypocritical, stupid and pointless."
the hypcritical isnt getting across to me. you didn't really say what I did that they did, or vice versa. most i am seeing is the topic of images. they didn't actually want the exact model. I know that.

now, the part that moves my hand over my eyes.

how self-rightous. I would have stopped from my own post had you not provoked me. this is how one knows that you are self rightous. YOU LEAVE THE TOPIC SAYING YOU WERE RIGHT!

Dude. You think what you will think. The world doesn't work like that. People base models off of reference images and such all the time. Master Chief (from Halo) was based off concept art of a Star Wars Stormtrooper. But they are clearly and distinctly two different characters from two different universes.

But even so, this forum isn't the place to go about with this sort of rant. Use Interlopers or Moddb instead. We aren't modders here; we're mappers.

you use other people's work. they wanted you to use other people's work. same thing. sure, they gave you a pic, but you rip models, well that doesn't make all that big a difference.

and you made a big deal out of c&c picture. did the guy who gave it to you said he drew it?

hi guys, i rip models and i'm the good guy. that bad baddie ripped a picture and he is very evil. not hypocritical at all.

here's the part that makes me want to facepalm (this is also my last post unless i change my mind).

you come here writing an essay moaning how people are unprofessional. but where was your professionalism when you joined a team with so incompetent lead designer? where was your own professionalism when instead of using communication skills and getting precise enough information out of said lead designer, you chose to post a rant on a mapping forum? your very first response had, as you say, mentioning he may have not put any thought on my processes to creating the models. why did you even need to mention that? is that "professional" to you? what was stopping you for asking "wtf man give me a more detailed description theres a fuckton of regular clothings i cant read your mind" and stopping there?

is it professional to bitch and moan in your very first response and then bitch and moan on a mapping forum? is it professional to get so pissed at one group that you had to announce that you are "no longer doing ANY FREE WORK FOR DEVELOPER GROUPS"? is it professional to join a team and apparently not even know what you'll be working on?

I'd say you've done a great job of leaving an impression of stable, professional, capable, non-hypocritical, non-stuck up individual that is a pleasure to work with. I'll keep you in mind when I start my own mod team.

My apologies... i mean it actually. guess i was just frustrated, but lead me to be a... well, douche. and yes, i have acted hypocritical. coming back to this after my idiocy i see that. i'll keep my rants off this forum, do not worry about that.

I personally apologise to W.S. I didn't see myself as the self-rightous one till now. and from that I drove a worsened figure of myself into this forum. I am sorry. I'll leave the case be.

p.s. frustration can do strange things, I am no better.

Also, sorry to burst your bubble but the majority of people actually working in the game industry are... not really great at what they do either. Sure they're better than this but you will still get vague descriptions all the time and then when it does get implemented it turns out it doesn't fit so you gotta do it again with a different description the designer pulls out of thin air

Oh and grabbing random images from other games or artists as design references is totally fine and not stealing or plagiarism unless it's a really extreme case

Do try to appear more professional though in general, if you keep this alias/nick people WILL look up stuff you did in the past

Surely a vague description leaves more to imagination? I'd have thought that's what a designer would want rather than being told exactly what's wanted. Apparently I was wrong.

Right or wrong, or whatever the case, making public threads like this one can really hurt your chances of getting more freelance work.
