Skyboxes?

I'm working on my first map, and it's a completely closed room, so I thought that there would be no need to have a sky. However, it appears that when the skybox is missing, reflective surfaces reflect the default missing texture (purple and black checker). Since I am a new mapper, and so far haven't been able to find a tutorial on skyboxes, could somebody either explain how to insert one or link me to a tutorial? That would be great.

P.S. sorry if I ask a lot of noobish questions...

some skyboxes will provide a default reflections, some won't.
it really isn't a big deal because most of the time, we use env_cubemaps to generate reflections.
so you don't really need the skybox to make a default reflection for you
