Replace all ads with one pop-under?

This doesnt really matter too much to vip users, so its mostly for regulars.
I know everyone hate ads, but they do help offset the cost of running sites + servers.

I'm seeing if users are willing to put up with a pop-under ad. This would be as an alternative to our banner ads. So not adding ads to the site, but replacing them with a pop-under.

This is not the same as a pop-up where its in your face. This pops a window under your current one when you interact with a page by clicking on it.

This pop-under will only appear once every 24 hrs.

NEVER put popup ads on your site. EVER EVER.

Pop-under ads are even more fucking annoying cause they'r a right pain to close. They're just a dick move and ruin a site.

Don't you get additional revenue based on the number of clicks on your ads? If so i can imagine fewer people clicking pop-unders as the immediate response is to just close the window. Win7 and vista also allow you to do that without even seeing the window by hovering over the explorer icon on the task bar and just clicking the little "x" on the tiny preview thumbnail.

If not ignore this post.

Static ads by far.
Pop ups are just horrendous and wildly ineffective

right now, it is per click. pop-under would be per impression. so clicks wouldn't matter. poll is pretty one sided, so its not happening.

I would deal with it if it really was once per 24h
But the sites with these are usually what I consider as "annoying"

But IF these pop unders would mean much more $$$ for the site (since they dont have to be clicked) I wouldn't complain

We should motivate some of our non-donators to click the ads then. A lot of our members would like to donate but are too young and/or don't have bank accounts. Clicking an add is pretty harmless and costs nothing to the person doing the clicking since they can just close the window/tab immediately afterwards.

I've clicked the ads once or twice because i was bored and saw some web-comics were displayed there and checked it out. Wasn't a big deal and i certianly wasn't raped by viruses or further pop-ups as a result of the initial ad.

The least some people can do to help the community along. I know there's a certain stigma about online advertisements... but TF2M has always been about providing a quality environment first and acquiring money to self sustain second. DrP has always kept us safe.

NO NO NO. Please do not do this unless you're actually interested in what is being advertised. Click fraud will get the advertising account banned and put me in a bad spot.

Nope. can't do that. Best you can do is encourage their parents to let them donate.

I would click the ads if they had anything relevant to mapping etc.
I have no need for dating tips or bibles.

You know, considering all the free fucking content we give to Valve I think they should sell a store item that directly goes to TF2Maps.

Seriously, modelers, get together and make a TF2maps.net hat pack. I'd wear dogbread on my head and pay 5 bucks if I knew some of that was going to my fourth favorite website on the internets.

Pretty much this.

You're not going to make more money shoving more ads in our faces, finding different ways to shove them in our face, and so on, you're going to get it by having ads that the userbase here would actually click on.

Hate to channel YouTube commenters, but 3 people are asking to be "popped under" if you know what I mean.

there are a few fullsail ads rotating, but since its adsense, i really dont have any say in what shows up.
