What about a contest with subdeadlines?

With 72 hour contest, we figured out that they are great at motivationg, so why not have checkpoints along the way? 14 days for layout, then 14 days for artpass. Consider it like the artpass contest when you weren't allowed to make major changes to the layout.

One problem, personally I don't have 14 days in a row for doing a non-stop mapping.

I think we deffinately need some more speed mapping contests.

The next official contest will probably be a mini-detail constest (which i'm looking forward too).

But deffinately need some speed mapping. The 72 hours contest was a HUGE success. Plus my self motivation sucks without deadlines set by other people.

I'd like to see a detailing contest revolving around some strict guidelines, like some prop must be used, an overlay implemented, etc. I think that stuff like this will bring out the creative side of our mappers and create some new and unusual styles of detailing.

Or not, I might just be bad.

for novices (like me) a speed/72 hour contest is great, providing the best incentives to get on and make a working (if not finished) map. if you know your way around the basics in hammer you can have a good stab at it, and you'll learn loads in the process without wasting too much time -- something i feel is a big disincentive having spent a lot of time to no avail, and losing faith (temporarily).

i'd quite like to see a speed mapping contest which works in two stages. 72 hours before first submission, then a round of prelim votes (over a weekend, perhaps), whittling down the candidates by around half. then allow a further 48-72 hours for a little extra polish before a final submission, more protracted testing, and a last vote. what i've noticed about the current 72 hours contest is that a lot of the maps have been patched up and improved markedly in the days following their submission, and this might be incorporated into the contest like this. it's just a thought.

hey hey can I do one too? ^^

For the next 'minimal contest' - no models allowed, not even doors or resupply crates, no can not be a model! So how are you supposed to model it? Use light!

I'd really love to see what trickery can someone do to achieve that.
