Not really interested in the hat, how is the game if I don't intend to pay a cent ?

You can pretty much still get everything in the game without paying, Just a little bit slower than people who do pay.

And the game is pretty darn fun.

I enjoy it. I have been playing since closed beta and it's still fun. I'm a big fan of Three Rings (Made SK), but they haven't really had a great success since Puzzle Pirates. They have made Spiral Knights, Whirled (Abject failure stated in an interview by Three Rings CEO), Game Gardens (Java site, never went off the ground), Bang Howdy (Fun game, now is dead), and Puzzle Pirates (by far their longest running game ever).

The thing that really hooked me to this game was the art style. Ian McConville is the lead artist on this game. You may know him from ThreePanelSoul or Mac Hall. The real reason they wanted him for Spiral Knights is they had one really good game on Whirled, Brawler Whirled, which was made by Ian. People have then gone on to mode the game, so I guess they thought it'd be a good place to start.

Anywho, I'd recommend this game, it's straight up fun :D

Spiral Knights is just as free-to-play as TF2 (just that TF2's client isn't free) in that you can get everything without paying a cent and it's arguably easier since trading is never needed and the drops aren't totally rare etc

Takes like a month, maybe two if you want to pretty much see everything in SK which I think is sensible and a lot shorter than if you were to start playing TF2 now

Is fun though and yes the art is great, Ian's still got it

Ok thanks. I used to read MacHall so yeah Ian McConville does ring a bell.
I guess I'll give it a try sometime :)

EDIT: oh we're off to a bad start, it greets me with a customization screen titled "Qu'est ce que vous ressemblez ?". If this is any indication of the quality of the translation, I'd like the English version now, please. :p

I like it. It plays like Torchlight and looks like Zelda.

You're just limited to about an hour a day if you don't buy energy. so it looks like it can take awhile to progress. But all the dungeons are random generation, so it should stay fairly fresh and for for awhile.

I get much less because I keep reviving myself. I WILL NOT LOSE TO THESE SLIMES.
