I have to turn this map I'm working in a day and i cannot for the life of me combine the two sides of my map into one.

so I'm asking from the bottom of my heart can someone please take the two maps rotate one side 180 degrees, or look at it and tell me how to do so?

here's a drop-box account with the maps:

Email: a4036653@jnxjn.com
password: sandvich

I've never used drop box before so if doesn't work I'll just put it somewhere else, thank you to anyone who can help!

OK, 1st, slow down.

If you put your file in the Public section of your dropbox, you can give us a download link.

Second order of business. It seems like you're trying to flip part of your map. What you need to do is select the part of your map you want to flip, hold shift and drag that section away to copy it, go to tools, pick 'Flip object', and flip it.

Out of curiosity, what sort of deadline is this?

EDIT: Please take down the link, it looks sloppy and it betrays your dignity, and the dignity of the forum :p

with a grid size of like 512, make a huge skip brush under the map, make it so the center of the skip brush is where you want the map's eventual center to be, and that all of the map is contained in the skip brush when you look at it top-down. Select everything in the map (except things you don't want to copy), including the skip brush. In the top-down view, shift-drag the map to duplicate it, then rotate it 180 degrees along Z (ctrl-M for transform, make sure rotation is selected, then type 180 under Z)

then while everything's still selected, move the currently selected brushes to align with what was there before.

note that any entities will have the same names as the ones you copied from in the first place, so anything like doors will have to be renamed on the copied side.

edit @absurdistof: he said he wanted it flipped, not mirrored

OK the email is funky, it's from 10minutemail.com, a website that gives you a email for (who would thunk it?) 10 minutes and then deletes it.

and i guess I'm not making my self clear, there are two separate maps, the same fort, just edited to match a team with different props, slightly different architecture, and stuff like that. I was looking to copy both of those maps and merge them into one.

how would i go about adding the maps to a public folder? it's the only folder in that account.

That sounds like a lot of work but you know you can paste-special from one map to another? Hammer can have more than one document open just like a word processor

the issue isn't that i don't wait, it just sometimes it crashes the second i do it, and other times after i paste it it looks like it works but then after i save it the pasted parts disappear.

I'm not illicit or gross that dropbox isn't gonna give you a virus can someone just look at it?

Your map is very small so I am suprised Hammer is giving you trouble. What you can try to do is paste in the map one visgroup or selection at a time. So, since you've got vmf's for both red and blu what you can do is select a visgroup like "displacements," click Mark to select the whole visgroup, and use paste special to move it in. Or you could make a box selection over a third of the map and transfer it.

Also, here is a tip that can make moving large sections of map faster: in Tools -> Options -> 2D views select "Arrow Keys nudge selected vertex/object" (veeerrrry useful!)

Now, you can set your grid to say 512 and just hit an arrow key to move it. That way it doesn't try to recalculate the position of everything as you clumsily drag it around, it just adds 512. Makes moving large clusters of objects MUCH faster and more stable.

Similarly, when rotating the selection use Ctrl+M (Tools -> Transform) and rotate 180 in Z. Once again, Hammer will do a single update of your selection rather than trying to update every frame as you clumsly rotate it with selection handles in 2D view.

As for pasting, using Paste Special as mentioned above should make it faster since it doesn't need to recalcuate any coordinates like it does with regular paste (since it just puts it in the same place). If Hammer is still crashing, restart SDK.

EDIT: Since I was looking at your vmf's in Hammer I just went ahead and did it for you but I hope that you will use this information in the future. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9300049/isla_del_porco_both.vmf

I'm still really curious why this has such an urgent deadline
