I was working on my first map for actual play and I made One side (red) since it is going to be a symmetrical CTF map, I was planning to copy and paste it and flip it and then change everything to be blue oriented.

only now i cant copy and paste it, and if i clone it by holding shift i works but i cant manipulate any entities on the copied side, and after i save it and reload that side is gone.

any tips or am i screwed?, thanks.

Just a guess, but are you using the cordon tool? You might be copying stuff outside the cordon box and that is why it isn't visible anymore.

Are you just trying to paste into hammer, or are you hitting Cntrl-M to get a fresh map to come up firsT?

I haven't seen that error

nope I'm pasting the map into a new one and if i save it and try to reload it i get that error.

should i just take my lumps, and just make the second fort from scratch and make it symmetrical gameplay wise, and asymmetrical art wise like 2 fort?

You need to tell a programmer.

I'm heading to washington, valve needs to know about this, your right. :p

In all seriousness though I don't know what's wrong here. I've never seen this or had this issue, and I made a fair number of bad symmetrical KOTH maps. I wish I could help.

You could try doing it one visgroup at a time. Select the world geometry visgroup (mark button), copy that over, then the tool brushes, copy that over, etc. Using Paste Special you can get them to paste to the same coordinates as they started at so everything still lines up.

As for why it's happening, well, Hammer is quite buggy.
